Four comics, one Philly night on Comedy Central
On November 13, 2016, Comedy Central aired the Philadelphia episode of Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City, the series in which Hart visits a city’s comedy scene and hands the stage to local comics. The episode listing names four performers: TuRae Gordon, Anthony Moore, Skeet Carter and Lawrence Killebrew.
For Killebrew, it was a big step. His official bio calls it his national television debut and says he was picked from a worldwide search of comedians for the show, which Hart created and produced through his company, Hart Beat Productions.
By then he had already spent years working clubs on the East Coast. What came after was the part most fans see now: a steady touring schedule, a run of self-released albums, a charity built around his love of sneakers and an Instagram account where he posts new clips almost every day.
Who is Lawrence Killebrew?
Lawrence Killebrew is a stand-up comedian, actor and host. On Instagram he describes himself as a comedian, an actor, a Nike ambassador and the creator of the #comedyhustle, a phrase that also names his albums, his old podcast and his YouTube vlog series.
His homepage opens with a line that sums up how he sees the job: “I didn’t get into comedy to be famous, I got into comedy to be a comedian.”
A current club bio on the DC Comedy Loft site describes his act as comedy built on personal experiences, sharp observations and storytelling. You can hear that in his track titles. His 2026 album includes bits called “Single Father Stuff,” “New Step Father Training,” “40 + No Kids” and “Starbucks Stories.”
Where is Lawrence Killebrew from?
Killebrew was born and raised in Philadelphia, according to a 2024 profile by Love Now Media. The DC Comedy Loft bio says he is originally from Philadelphia and now based in Atlanta.
Both cities show up in his work. His first album has tracks titled “Back to Philly” and “Homeless in Atlanta,” and his charity has given sneakers to students in Philadelphia, Camden, New Jersey, and Atlanta.
How did Lawrence Killebrew get started in comedy?
His bio says he started at the Rascals Comedy Club in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. From there he moved on to clubs such as the Laff Factory, the Improv and other Rascals locations, and he played colleges around the country.
Back home, he built his own room. According to his bio, he created, hosted and produced a monthly show called “Tickle Me Tuesdays,” which ran for six years at the Laff House, the Philadelphia comedy club. The Laff House still keeps an old clip of his set on its YouTube channel.
His bio lists a few other stops along the way. In early 2010 he went to Seoul, South Korea, with other comedians to perform for U.S. troops. He was a guest DJ on Radio One’s 100.3 The Beat on “Philly Home Jamz” on Sunday nights. He also acted in the film Sucka 4 Luv and the Bounce TV sitcom Family Time.
What is Lawrence Killebrew known for?
Club audiences know him as a road comic. His bio says he has toured with and opened for Katt Williams, Kevin Hart and Bill Burr, has hosted the Plastic Cup Boyz tour and works regularly at Improv and Funny Bone clubs. Video from the Apollo Comedy Club in 2017 and Carolines on Broadway, which booked him for its “Breakout Artist Comedy Series,” show how far that circuit has taken him.
Online, he is known for short, everyday clips. In the week before this article, his Instagram reels included bits about customer service, moving in with a partner and run clubs, most of them shot selfie-style. He posts several a day, and the account showed about 6,700 posts on October 17, 2026.
Then there is the hustle. Killebrew has put out all three of his albums independently, with the rights held in his own name, and he has documented life on the road in his ComedyHustle vlog on YouTube.

What is Killebrew Kicks?
Killebrew Kicks is the nonprofit he founded in 2019 to give school kids brand-new sneakers. Love Now Media reports that it started with him handing out pairs from his own collection, until he noticed his sneakers left out kids who didn’t wear his size.
He told the outlet why it matters to him: “I felt like a Superhero,” especially when I played ball.
The charity has grown into more than shoe giveaways. The Killebrew Kicks site describes taking 100 students to see the new Black Panther film in November 2022 and a November 2023 shopping spree with DTLR for 15 honor roll students from Toby Farms middle school. He also self-published a coloring book, Kid Killebrew and His Super Kicks, with proceeds going back to the nonprofit, and hosts an annual celebrity basketball game every April.
