Living the Dream: Karina Michel’s Journey to 25 Years in the Entertainment Industry

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

Hi- I’m Karina Michel.. I’ve been an actress/producer for over 25 years. I love this business. Every day is different, with new faces and new challenges, but I can honestly say I’ve loved every minute of it. Storytelling is what keeps me going!

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

You know, I think what sets me apart is that I’ve had a passion for this industry since I was very young and I treat every job the same – whether it’s a small indie movie or a big blockbuster – bringing the same level of professionalism and attitude is important. Its about building a brand and a great reputation. I think that’s why I’m still so lucky to be doing this today.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

People come into this business for different reasons, but at the end of the day (which can be very long hours!!) you have to LOVE it at its core. You have to live the process. That moment when I’m halfway through a movie and just loving the cast and crew and everything that we’re doing.

The fact that we’re getting paid and getting to create great memories together. That’s what it’s all about. There’s no better feeling.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

My biggest challenge was being at the top of my acting game in LA in 2010 and realizing that I wanted to be a Mom and have a family and be a producer, but not knowing where to start. I also felt that if I left I may not be able to get back into acting again for many reasons.

That ended up being the best decision I ever made – I’ve built up a company and years of producing experience, and somehow fell back into acting this January. I’m on my third acting role/feature this year – It feels that this was the way it was meant to be all the long.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

Oprah Winfrey- has always been an icon for me.
Jennifer Lopez – I danced in her video years ago- I’m always impressed by her work ethic and projects she takes on
Mark Wahlberg- I’ve always been such a fan! Love seeing what he does in all his business and personal ventures. I think a film studio in Las Vegas is a genius idea.
