Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hello, I’m Barry Price. A husband, father, and grandfather living on a barrier island called the Outer Banks of North Carolina! I lived here for 44 years and have gone to grade school in Portsmouth, VA… only one and a half hours away.
Being introduced to the “beach lifestyle” has kept me here for so long, meaning that it is laid back and just close enough to get to a metropolitan area for other means of work. Traveling away but always ready to come back home over that bridge!
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
As I said, I don’t live in the center of the industry but jump into it from where I am geographically. People say, “oh you’re the guy from the Outer Banks!” So, basically, I drive that extra 2 hours or so to jump into industry work. Kinda like an outsider… and I like it like that!
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
Well, I started kind of late. Having always been a surfer since the age of 12. I started getting a little bit of attention locally with some magazine work and video spots. That led to a few ads here and there and finally to some documentary shows needing different reenactors. Ever since the roles have been getting better and better.
Now, the moment I realized this was my calling is when I got a phone call from a casting agency: I submitted my headshot and very green resume to them. They asked me if I was available for the next 2 or 3 months to be a stand-in on a movie, and I said, “Yes, I am!” And guess who I stood in for? Richard Gere! This was my turning point in the industry! What an experience!
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
Having not gone to college and just having a high school diploma has always challenged me in the Industry. I have always been a hard worker and have been working since I was 14 years old. Having been a shy, lacking self-esteem type of kid, working in the dining rooms of restaurants helped bring me out those feelings.
What I’m getting is that it’s almost a self-taught type of thing. Plus, I got married at a young age and had my son at 25 years old. So raising him and working back then was a real challenge… but now, I am reaping the benefits!
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt… is this a stretch?
Well, I’ve always loved all 3 of these guys! They all act, direct, and produce! Love their styles and feel like I can relate to all of them!
