Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hello! My name is A’Myah Gill, I’m 18 years old, and I make music. everything that i have put out and will in the future is completely produced and written for me! The style of music I like is me! I just make music that I would listen to and or that I like. But if that’s not a good enough direct answer then you can say I make alternative music.

I have always entertained the idea of becoming a singer and making music in secret for as long as I can remember. I even promoted a single in 2017 and the only person who knew about it was my younger sister! I never actually followed through with anything though because I was so shy and I was scared to let anyone outside of my family know I actually could sing. But that changed thanksgiving day of 2020. After making songs in my room all through the quarantine in 2020, on thanksgiving i sat down with my mom and told her “there is nothing i want to do more than to do music.” It was true, there was nothing else that brought me so much fulfillment and I didn’t want to spend my life doing something i hate and didn’t want to do in the first place. Luckily she was very supportive and always has been. So now I make music and I absolutely love it and so does my family, friends, people in my town, and beyond!

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
As crazy as it seems, i don’t really want to be famous haha. I mean it would be nice and it is something that comes with the job but it’s not necessarily what I’m chasing. Personally, I can’t even order for myself at restaurants. I’m scared to sing in front of even my mom by myself and trust me I’ve seen NUMEROUS videos of people talking about how hard it is to deal with the exact job I want and the bad definitely does seem scary. So now you’re probably like “okay then why do you want to do music?”. Although I’m petrified of all those things, when I actually do it I love every second of it. As I previously said, I love music. I love making it, singing it, performing it. No matter how scary it is, I just can’t get enough of it. I think another thing I’m really chasing is the connections you build with people. I’m not saying I want people to be absolutely obsessed with me, but I want to find people who actually take the time to listen to what I have to say and understand me not as some idol or public figure but just as me. I heard once before that music heals, and I wholeheartedly believe that. And if I have the ability to create something and perform something that can do that for someone. Just one single person. Then I’m okay with that alone.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
The moment that I realized “this is what I’m born to do” was when I did a singing competition for the NAACP in my local area. Usually, I don’t sing by myself or do solos or anything like that, but I decided that I wanted to participate after being asked about it. This was my very first time singing by myself outside of church so the entire time leading up to it I was so nervous. I thought I was going to mess up and forget the lyrics to the song or honestly just look awkward. It was a very big stage and there were a lot of people so I was quite nervous, especially since I was going first. On our way to the venue I was so nervous I thought I was going to be sick. But when the event started and I got on the stage and began to sing, I performed like I knew what I was doing or like I’ve done it 1 million times before. It just felt so natural and so fun. After that I knew I wanted to keep doing it and being on the stage.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
The biggest challenge I had to go through is dealing with anxiety. I have recently developed generalized anxiety disorder and it makes it 10x harder to do everyday things. This affected every aspect of my life. I think it’s important for people who are in the limelight to talk about the actual reality of things like this because it’s so serious. People think having anxiety is just you constantly bouncing your legs, biting your nails, or even avoiding large areas. But in reality, it’s so much worse. With my personal experience its not being able to get through the day without breaking down in tears from worrying so much, it’s not being hungry because you’re so worried that food makes you nauseous, it’s becoming doctor google and worrying yourself sick because google told you that you have 3 days to live because your headache is an aneurysm and you have a brain tumor. And this is everyday. When I’m in my most anxious states, some of the things I do is realize that in order to be okay I have to fight to be okay. I surround myself with people who understand what I’m going through and can help calm me. I turn on subliminals and rest. Or I use my greatest distraction….music. I said music heals and that I truly believe it because I know it does. Music helps ground me. Sure , it’s not a permanent fix, but being able to express my worries in music I make helps me vent. Or even just listening to music because it brings my mood up so very much. Music helps me when I feel like the world around me is crumbling to the ground.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
The top 3 people I want to work with are number one, hands down, without a doubt, 3racha! They are the producers for their group Stray kids and they are insanely talented! Even if I don’t work with them on a project, I would be okay with sitting with them in a studio and watching and learning from them just doing their thing. They are incredible at what they do, and I admire not only 3racha but also Stray Kids! Another person is Billie Eilish! She is one that inspired me to make that single back in 2017 haha! But I want to perform like her. The way she is able to fully engage a crowd from beginning to end is mind blowing. I have really dived into her career and seen her grow in her career since pretty much the beginning, so it would be amazing to learn from her. Though he is a part of 3racha i would choose Bang Chan. I also looked into his story. I’ve learned about the hardships he had to endure through many years and although there are differences in the sides of the industry we are in, ultimately things are pretty much still the same. I think talking to him about the hardships and how to navigate through the ups and downs would be very helpful to look back on in moments where the lows outweigh the highs.
