Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
My name is Justin P. Slaughter, I also go by “J SLAUGHTER”. I guess you can say that I’m a triple threat, a jack of all trades, or maybe both. I’m an American actor and Recording artist known for the 2019 film 90 Feet From Home and the 2021 film Meteor both available on Amazon Prime Video. I also have a new project coming soon that’s currently in post-production entitled “Egress” directed by Clarito Zapanta, produced by IAJ Media. Acting has always been my passion and lifelong dream. I love everything about the art from the technical side of it all the way to the actual craft itself; becoming the character that has been written. I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer and owner of “JSlaughterFITNESS”. I’m also a Prep Coach for Bodybuilding Athletes. I’ve always been the kind of person that loves to help people and be a part of their lives to help them change their lifestyle to a healthy and positive one. I have mentioned that I’m a recording artist as well. I have a song that is released on iTunes, Spotify, and the majority of the online music stores entitled “Oh (Move Ya Body)” produced by Vinny D. Music is something that runs very deep in my family, we’re all musically inclined.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m very easy to get along with. I wouldn’t say that I’m an introvert or an extrovert; a bit of both optionally. I’m an ambivert. I definitely have a sense of humor as well so believe me when I say, it’s never a dull moment to be around me. I’m very optimistic as well; more of a half-glass full. Passion runs deep in me for Acting, Music, Health & Fitness. So I really put my all into them and I appreciate all aspects of them.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
For Acting, I remember sitting in my car at a gas station in 2017 a month or 2 before Hurricane Harvey. While I was getting gas, the moment of thought hit me like a lightning strike to get back into Acting because I actually started acting back in 2008 but I was never taking it seriously. So I decided that this time I want to get back to it but take it seriously, go all the way with it and see how far I can go. The first person I told was an old friend and they immediately said that I should pursue it and they’re also curious to see how far I can go in that industry. Since then, I am very blessed to be where I’m at now and I’m very excited and curious to see what else the future has in store for me. It has definitely been hard work. Had a lot of “No’s” from auditions and quite a bit of “Yes’s”.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge I’ve had to face was not to be so hard on myself when I don’t get the part on a project I auditioned for. I’ve overcome that issue by understanding that opportunities come so very often and there’s always going to be something better on the way so be prepared and ready.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Denzel Washington, Anthony Mackie, and Angela Bassett
