Chisom “Flamez” Nwankwo Is On A Mission To Diversify Rap Music

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

My name is Chisom Kingsley Nwankwo also known as Flamez. Realistically, I do music and I don’t just do music because I feel the need to, no, I do music because I feel like it’s my course to make the people happy and proud and to share the plight of the people and also to send out a message, so music chooses me.

I want people to know and feel the diversity in music, I want people to know of my unique style of rap and how the concept of rap music could be positively bettered with my kind of rap style.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I believe that what makes me different from others is my unique style of mixing not just different languages and making it a general message to understand by all, but the energy also is a credit. my energy, style, and my personal concept of music.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

That day that my friend asked me to walk him to the studio which I did. On getting there, he entered the booth and started recording. He took on the hook of the song and called on me from the booth to come to take a verse and I was like, “Man, you didn’t tell me I was gonna be featured on this track,” and he said, “Well, game changes.”

So I had to quickly put down some lyrics and after I am done recording, the producer was wowed and with a smile on his face he said, “Flamez, keep it up, never stop!” And at that moment I knew my choice was right… that was the moment.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

My biggest challenge was getting my family to accept the fact that my desire is to do music and how I got through it was being independent and letting them know that music choose me and there’s nothing absolutely to be done about it.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?

Olamide, Techn9ne, and Burna boy. Specifically, I feel like they were all independent and made it big in the industry. They understand the game because they are like a diamond made from the rough. Techn9ne understands what it feels like to be independent so do all of the top 3 I mentioned. Olamide and Burna Boy are afro-beat legends and their style would be a boost to my career.
