Actress Playing Female Lead Role in Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival’s Production of ‘As You Like It’; Will Also Play a Predominantly Male Role in ‘Macbeth’
Emerging actor Chloe Baldwin will play ‘Rosalind’ in Shakespeare’s famous comedy; and then ‘Lennox’ in Shakespeare’s renowned tragedy
For Immediate Release June 5, 2022
LOS ANGELES – Actor Chloe Baldwin isn’t afraid to break down stereotypes, especially in the roles she tackles on stage.
This summer, she will play ‘Rosalind’ in the Kinsgmen Shakespeare Festival’s production of ‘As You Like It.’ Baldwin says the heroine (who must disguise herself as a man) is one of her favorite roles to play. She was nominated for a BroadwayWorld Award when she played the part at the Eclectic Theatre in Chicago.
“What draws me to Rosalind again and again is how this story subverts our expectations of gender,” Baldwin said. “Throughout the story, it’s seen as a performance, as an identity, as a disguise… It draws you to ask a lot of questions about it through comedy.”
Baldwin will also play Scottish nobleman Lennox in the Kingsmen’s production of ‘Macbeth.’ Baldwin is not intimidated that the part is usually played by a man. She hopes to bring her training as a sword fighter and talent in fight choreography to the stage.
