Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
My name is Hannah Fletcher, and I am a host who has a passion for interviewing. I strive to provide a supported and genuine experience while conducting a conversation, not an interrogation.
I am adamant about the importance of understanding my love for people and for supporting others via interviewing. It’s simply why I feel that I was placed on this earth.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I strongly believe that my understanding and respect for my childhood and my life prior to living in LA keeps me grounded. Yes, I love red carpets and being on set. However, I also love the idea of nature and the country, being able to recall fond memories I have of hikes, kayaking, camping, and so on.
I am very intentional when it comes to my time and balancing my life in any way possible when I can, and I am confident in that being the key in this business.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
My parents knew first! They are my biggest fans and supporters, and I would not be where I am without them. Nor would I be the person I am today without them.
During the pandemic, I had an epiphany that I was in love with many aspects of the industry, and I was determined to hone the interviewing skills and abilities that I already possessed.
Ever since 2020 my life has been full speed ahead, and God is at the helm guiding every step of the way. It has been busy, but beautiful, and I’ve never felt more divinely aligned than I do currently.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
I find that the most challenging interviews can be the ones that are sprung on an interviewer last minute, but the most fun aspect of these interviews can be engaging of active listening skills! I love nothing more than when I am able to deduce and pick up on little nuances to further a conversation.
I’ve also found that the more you listen, and if you can sink yourself into the metaphorical chair of enthusiasm, just ask the questions that you genuinely want to know the answer to. As long as an interviewer is actively listening to the conversation, they will get through it without any nerves!
You are an accomplished journalist and red carpet reporter. What led you to this career path?
First of all, thank you so much!
After ruminating during the pandemic, I wanted to expand my opportunities in the industry. I was determined to learn the world of interviewing and being on red carpets. I also knew that long-term, I wanted my own talk show.
However, I understood that would require me to demonstrate my abilities and acquire experience that would produce footage showing my interviewing skills.
With this in mind, I decided to apply for internships where I could gain understanding and insight into the world of media, as well as how to be in rooms that would allow me to connect with those that I was not already acquainted with. After many years of saying “yes” and trusting the process, here I am!
You also work as host for Muse TV, The Buzz, and Where’s The Buzz? Of all the interviews you have done for these outlets, which has been your favorite and why?
Larry the Cable Guy definitely stands out! Having lived in Virginia, I have heard many of my friends and family express their absolute love for Larry. Also, he is utterly adorable, talented, and down-to-earth. During our interview, he pulled out his Mater toy and said my name in his Mater voice.
The fact that he acknowledged me via his cartoon voice, and just really bought in to the idea of playing during the interview and making me feel comfortable as well, that just means the absolute world when you are an interviewer.
Your upcoming talk show, The Hannah Fletcher Show, is premiering soon. Can you tell us what inspired this project?
The inspiration for this project derived from wanting to establish a more genuine connection and support with guests when interviewing. After having worked on red carpets for years, I noticed collectively that there was an apprehension that existed among those being interviewed by the media.
Additionally, I knew that it was on my heart to have my own talk show, and after expressing my goals and intentions to my Executive Producer and Director, Eric Wheelwright- he was inspired to continue conversations surrounding how we could bring this vision to life.
How has having acclaimed producer Eric Wheelwright involved in The Hannah Fletcher Show elevated the project?
Eric is perfect in so many ways for this project. He has been remarkable to work with and learn from. Eric’s accolades and decades of industry experience are exceptional, given that he’s worked with talent like Michael Jackson, Mena Suvari, Faye Dunaway and so many more remarkable celebrities.
What I most adore about Eric is his ability to listen. He always hears me, and to find someone who not only hears you, but also respects and sees your vision, is an astounding gift that is so rare in life. I am beyond grateful for him and his abilities and willingness to collaborate on creating our show.
Can you tell us some of the guests we can expect to see on The Hannah Fletcher Show?
The variety of guests so far has been amazing! You can expect to see icons such as Lainie Kazan, Gary Anthony Williams, and Spencer Sutherland just to name a few. There are so many incredible guests, and I am so thankful to have had absolutely remarkable conversations with each individual who sat across from me.
We have musicians, social media celebrities, life-changing individuals who came on the show to share their stories and abilities. We have someone for everyone, and I am so excited to share this show with the world!
What do you hope viewers take away from watching The Hannah Fletcher Show?
I am praying that viewers see guests that they can relate to and learn more about. I am excited that the show is in the process of adding segments and expansions that can serve the younger generation and provide resources as well.
Above all, I am beyond hopeful that “The Hannah Fletcher Show” can be a show that the audience can enjoy watching with the ability to focus on the segments and conversations being had, while providing support, inspiration, intelligence, and entertainment all at once.
You also have acting aspirations. What would your dream role be? Do you have a dream co-star?
I would love to be in a horror film…I think it would be so fun! I just love the idea of completely stepping out of myself and into a different character and world. For example, something haunting and paranormal would be an absolute blast to me! Think any of The Conjuring films, for example.
As far as a co-star goes, I would strive to wait for an acting partner who is open and receptive so we can create the best performance possible.
What suggestions would you offer to young people aspiring to enter the entertainment industry?
I would advise to remain true to yourself but keep your mind and options open. If you stay too narrow-minded, you may be shutting the door to opportunities that could stem from doing that “one thing” that you didn’t 100% feel like doing.
If I wouldn’t have had my epiphany in 2020, I would still be in the industry but not in the capacity that I possess now, and I am so grateful to be in the exact position that I am in currently.
What is one personal or professional tip you wish you could share with your younger self?
It’s often said, but I would advise myself heavily to not compare. This would be my advice to my younger self and to the younger generation. Do not compare yourself to others because you don’t know what their plan and purpose is.
Do not compare yourself to previous versions of yourself, you must allow for growth. If you have a pulse, you have a purpose, and no one’s purpose is exactly like another.
Can you tell us about any other current projects our readers can see you in?
I have one in particular but I cannot say anything about it just yet! What I can say is that it is very different compared to the talk show, and I had an absolutely amazing time filming it. I will make announcements when I am allowed to do so. In the meantime, just stay tuned to my social media accounts for updates.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career to the next level. Who would those 3 people be?
Real Talk Kim, Oprah, and Jeannie Mai.
Real Talk Kim has helped me immensely in my faith journey, especially this year. Oprah is iconic for countless reasons, and I would love to have a conversation with her: not only about being an icon in the talk show space, but also in terms of business and crafting her network.
Finally, Jeannie Mai has been a role model of mine in the media space for years, and I truly believe she is of the same spirit, both on and off-screen which is rare and inspiring. As a fan of “The Real” and having watched the show for so many years, it would be an honor to connect with her as well.
