Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
My name is Jason Cohen. I come from a strong family residing from NJ. I graduated college with a bachelors of science in pre medical biology. Since as long as I can remember my mother drove my twin brother and I to NY every weekend for auditions.
I love film. After college I spent more time away from the operating room where I worked as a research coordinator and more time reading scripts and getting back into auditions. Now I am currently living in LA pursuing what I love most.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
One quality I find unique with in my self is my genuine character. I am an open minded individual, I love to listen to others and try new things. Im not a judgmental person.
I believe this quality enhances my life and furthering my personal growth. Empathy is a trait that must be practiced and for me I believe it is something that comes off naturally.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
I have always been a bit of an entertainer. I loved being on the stage. When I was a kid I was always filming little reels and making movies with my brother. Just something about bringing a story to life through pictures just brings happiness and excitement to my life. As long as I could remember I have always loved film and entertainment.
I was not always the most athletic as a kid I was the creative one, always imagining things so if being in-front of or behind a camera was the moment, that was the start.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
A huge cross roads that hit my life was after I graduated college. I was working in an operating room and I just took my MCAT which is the medical college admissions test. I was conflicted on going to school for ten more years to become a doctor or doing something I truly loved. Since I was a kid I loved film and entertainment.
I just dedicated seven years of my life completing my bachelors degree which my college wrestling scholarship helped me pay for. All the countless hours working in the operating room as a research coordinator, all the studying. To leave all that would be crazy I thought. Can you imagine what my peers might think of me? Yeah, I took the leap.
For me I realized life is short were here for a blip. So mine as well do something you really love. What can I say I enjoy what I do so I took a shot. Have a long road of hard work a head but if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
Top 3 people I would like to meet to elevate my career is firstly, Matt Damon. What I always loved about Matt Damon was he seemed to be a gritty east coaster like my self. if you want something in life you have to go out in the world and get it.
I truly admired that about his character. I was never given anything in my life. Nothing comes easy and to see success from that type of character is truly inspiring. Secondly, Gary Vaynerchuck. Gary V. is a entreprenuer who is also very keen on hard work. I look up to Gary because one of his most admirable traits is his values.
His values are his family and his health. If you have those two things in life you truly have nothing to worry about. Continue chasing your goals and carpe diem.
Lastly, I would have to say Gus Van Sant. Gus Van Sant is not just an amazing director but also has a smart was of thinking in the industry. I believe directors and producers are the brain in the entertainment industry and if you understand the reason why they work as they do, you could be a much smarter business man as well as an actor in entertainment.
