Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
I am Stefano Tropea in Art Trofan Beats. Born and raised in Sicily (Italy), now based in Germany. My parents were fans of Italian music in the 90s, so I began listening to music at a young age. My eighth birthday gift was an Eminem Record “The Eminem Show”. I didn’t understand the lyrics, but the musical style and mood fascinated me.
A few years later due to an accident and a difficult period I took refuge in music. From here the desire to be part of this world came out of necessity, since I was not good at writing lyrics, I tried to produce my first beats, but they sucked at first. In the years that followed, I took refuge in music due to an accident and a difficult period. From here on, the desire to be part of this world came out of necessity. Since I had no talent for writing lyrics, I produced my first beats, which sucked at first.
Then one day I posted a beat of mine on a Facebook page destined for a contest on the social network, from there I made contact with Maouzee, an Italian Rapper from Rome, one of the first rappers who started using my beats. In fact, he is the only rapper who properly raps over them today.
In 2018, I discovered the American rapper NF and completely fell in love with the cinematic beats he uses in his songs, so that’s the mood I like to Produce most, although I can always produce Trap and Rock Beats if requested. Versatile is the best description of me.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
In response to the question “what’s your favorite part of your body?” I’ll say my earlobes. One thing that differentiates me from most of the scenes in my ears and my imagination, and I rarely produce with samples, other than when I’m lazy or in a bad mood.
My melodies are created by ear. I have never studied music before (but I will begin soon if I have the chance) until today I improvise and create my melodies by ear starting from scratch, I like to experiment a lot and that brought me forward and made me understand that you don’t necessarily have to study music if it comes from the inside you.
I see many producers that can’t produce a beat without a premade sample or a loop, I never had a problem like this – proud to be born with good ears.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
I realized I was born to do this when I was placed on a Beats sponsorship channel with 200 thousand subscribers, 58 thousand people had listened to my beat. I was so excited from that point on I participated in many online Contests.
I’ve never won one but I’ve always come close, this makes me realize I need to find the right opportunity to excel at what I do. I might have to be in the right place at the right time. And I’m sure that the right time will come.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
My life has been filled with many challenges, among which is creating an image and approaching the public, nowadays an image is everything in this music business, I spent a lot of years as a ghost producer or Bedroom Producer or however you want to say it, many heard my music but no one knew me, I realized that to reach certain goals, one has to come out and put their face in it, and here I am. This is the first step to winning my challenge.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
The top 3 people I hope to meet one day are:
Eminem. As a child, I began listening to rap music because of “The Eminem Show.” He opened a World to me and helped me through difficult times in my youth.
Hopsin. When I first started producing beats in 2012, Hopsin was one of the Rappers I listened to a lot. His deep rap and his dark beats inspired me a lot at the time.
NF and his Producer Tommee Profitt. After hearing NF’s music for the first time in 2018, I fell in love with his deep cinematic beats. I prefer that mood at the moment and I feel that it reflects the way I am. I’m open to various genres, but that deep cinematic stuff is what inspires me the most.
