Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
My name is Javier Collazo Lopez, based out of Florida. I’m an actor and singer. I fell in love with acting when I was ten while playing a role in my school’s production of The Lion King Jr..
and while I’m still on the stage today, I’ve branched out to independent films. I also enjoy playing the piano, soccer, video games, and swimming.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m a Latino, teenage boy with long curly hair and a thirst for life and entertaining – it’s what I do. It’s what I love to do. I want people to leave the theater (whether on Broadway or the movies) feeling the performance.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
My first short, The Son, was my first time as a lead on a real set. Even though it was a student film, the professionalism was incredible. The director, the crew, and the cast made the experience something I will always remember.
My mom was the first person I told. She’s always been so supportive and she just dove right in and started researching the business. Since then, even with Covid-19, I’ve been cast in many productions, I’m back in live theater, and I’ll be filming the feature for The Son next summer.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
The theater community, where I first started, took a big hit due to Covid-19. My passion for acting seemed to be closed up for business so I branched out to film and TV.
I began with a new coach and started learning that part of the industry. Luckily for me there were plenty of opportunities for me to build my resume in film. In less than a year, I have obtained 10 credits and have booked several other projects set to film in 2022.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Lin Manuel Miranda – he does everything I want to do (music, theater, film, writer, producer). He’s also a great voice for minorities like me.
Tom Hanks – he’s been in this business a long time in many versatile roles, including voice over. He has many iconic movies like Big, Toy Story, Forrest Gump and many others. As an older actor, he’s still very much sought after for films.
Ming-Na Wen – she’s so diverse. She’s one of the only people to be in every universe of Disney: the princess (Mulan), Star Wars (Fennec), Marvel (May).
