Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
Hi, my name is Nya Chambless and I am 12 years old. I like to act, sing and dance and have been acting since I was 4years old. I saw Annie when I was just 2 and I loved it so much!
I’ve always loved acting because I feel that I can convey a story through a variety of emotions. I could make someone laugh, cry, smile or even make their whole day better just by doing something I love to do! I love how the audience responds to my work.
What I would like people to know about me is that I love doing this job and I like to inspire people to be comfortable with themselves and to never hide who they truly are. I think I can do that through my acting and filmmaking!
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I think what makes me unique is how I see the world and how we can all make it better. I always think about the characters I embody and about the other characters I am working with and how we can convey the story together, the dynamics and believability along with our chemistry. I really want the audience to be a part of what we are doing and be pulled into our world.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
My parents took me to my first theatre show, Annie, when I was 2 and I can still remember my first thoughts and feelings and I was amazed to see how those kids took the story and brought it to life. I wanted to be up there doing it too! I started dancing between my dad’s legs and then I thought, “I wanna be up there!” So I went! My dad was friends with the Artistic Director and he waved him down and our friend grabbed me as I was climbing the stage stairs.
I wasted no time telling my parents that I should be up there, doing that and could they help me? Since then, I was acting in college thesis films, commercials, theatre and independent features. I also have written, directed and acted in my own film that have traveled to many countries in film festivals and won several awards! It has been very exciting and wonderful!
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge is balancing acting with the rest of my life, school, family, friends, that sort of thing. But I love what I do, and I am also a straight A student because education is so important even for an actor. So it has been a big sacrifice because I love spending time with my family and friends and sometimes I can’t do that. But they are all very supportive and help me with my art.
My second challenge is not being able to do more acting. I’d love to do this every day!
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Stephen Spielberg, I love how he works the frame. I’d love to talk to him about filmmaking!
Hedy Lamarr; She was an amazing actress and an accomplished scientist!
Shirley Temple: She was such a lovable and accomplished child actor. She would have been an amazing mentor!
