Perspective Rewards of Dedication to the Performing Arts | Marie-Louise Boisnier

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

My name is Marie-Louise, I’m an Actress and Singer. I live in New York City and have done for the past four years, being able to wake up everyday and do what I love is a true blessing. Performing is something I have dedicated most of my life towards it’s my biggest gift and I do not take it for granted!

An average day in my life consists of filming one or two self tapes in the morning, fueled by coffee, going to the gym and heading to rehearsals in the afternoon, or getting ready for a Musical i am taking part in for an evening or matinee performance! I have worked years to create this sort of routine for myself and it doesn’t come easy. The world of performing arts means a lot of dedication.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

There’s a lot of talented people in this industry and I believe everyone carries something uniquely different. I grew up speaking Slovakian with my mum and mum’s side of the family and French with my dad and his side of the family, and English at school. Somehow I have miraculously got a very British accent which I am very grateful for as it definitely helps when studying and creating different dialects for different characters.

The United Kingdom was a huge factor in my performing arts journey, especially as it’s so enriched in the schools. Performing arts in the UK is just as important as any other subject and is viewed so highly and taken very seriously.

I studied Drama all throughout my entire childhood from GCSE to A levels and I was also doing private classes and performing classes outside of the classroom, so the fact that I was able to have so much resources and access to amazing and inspiring teachers who really pushed me along the way.

Having this upbringing really catapulted me to where I am now and I meet so many people on a daily basis and i love being able to communicate in other languages as well I am so grateful my family taught it to me at a young age as it really stuck with me.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?

To be completely honest the performing path carved its way very naturally, as a baby I am told by both my mum and grandma that I was very smiley and happy child, and would always try and talk to all the kids in the park and loved making friends and meeting people. Then a lot of it boils down to the fact that I am an only child, so I sort of had to find my own outlets to create and have fun, whether it was painting, playing make believe and inviting my family members to my ‘restaurant’ or putting on shows for them in the garden.

I believe this free time by myself allowed me to do the things I loved to do, I don’t ever remember being bored, I was always watching films, singing and dancing around the house. I also had a HUGE passion for singing and music it would always put me at ease.

I would sing all the time, artists such as Adele and Celine Dion inspired me and I would perform covers of their songs. I loved seeing musicals with my mum we’d take the train up to London and go see her favorite musical which is Phantom of the opera.

My mum definitely saw my passion for performing and encouraged me, I’d stay late after school and took part in all extra curricular classes such as Ballet, Tap, Bollywood, Choirs, and School Plays & Shows. As I started to perform more and more of my peers encouraged me to pursue it.

I believe in the 10,000 hour rule, success doesn’t happen overnight, you have to practice to be good and put time effort and care into what you love and want to be good at. I genuinely believe had I not done that from the get go and had the support of both mum and grandma I wouldn’t be where I am now. To Them I am most grateful for.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?

I definitely think Covid, it was a really rough phase and I think everyone can agree. It went from 100 to 0 overnight. especially as an artist you feed off meeting other people, seeing new things and traveling to new places and being inspired by it to create more.

Also being in New York whilst the pandemic was at large meant I was away from my family, I was taking classes online and was in limbo whether anything would even open again? One thing Covid did was allow me to sort of come back to myself again, I started to write songs, write scripts and I would found my old sort of creative outlets. It made me want to perform even more and my desire for the arts only grew bigger for what was to come when the world finally did reopen!

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

That’s a really hard one. i always wanted to meet Diane Keaton, I love her work and all her old films she is so naturally funny. Definitely Adele, I and the whole world I know is obsessed with her, her music for me is timeless she is a LEGEND and ICON, and one of the most talented artists of our generation. The way she writes lyrics is so fascinating. It’s really hard to pick just three but I guess my third person is Jennifer Anniston, I love her!
