Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hi! I am Jennifer Alvarado. I am a country pop singer that splits my time between Nashville and NC. I’m about to head to LA for my first Cali tour. I’m finishing off the week of dates by playing at The Viper Room.
Here’s a little bio:
Jennifer Alvarado is an international recording artist from Vale, North Carolina and has amassed over 1 million streams on Spotify alone.
Her first EP project titled ”Playing with Fire” was released in April 2021. She released a country pop EP titled “Songbird: Part One” in July 2022. “Songbird” is a two part collection of songs that shows Jennifer’s growth as a writer and is sonically much different than her earlier projects.
“Catfish” is the first single off the “Songbird: Part Two” EP that will be released in early 2023. Her music has a country sensibility with a pop current running through it. Her sound is a mixture of country, pop and blues that reflect an eclectic blend of influences.
She has been recognized locally for her songwriting and was named ”One to Watch” by Nashville Songwriters Association in Spring 2021 and Spring 2022. She was named the “2021 Country Artist of the Year” by Indie Star Radio.
Her song “Curious” won “Best Pop Song” for the Indie Songwriting Awards in Winter 2022. Her song “Rock This Way” was named “Best Pop Song” and “Best Overall Song” by the Indie Songwriting Awards in Spring 2022. Her duet “Starz Collide” with Canadian band, The Whythouse, was named “Best Duet” for the Summer 2022 Indie Songwriting Awards.
She was a finalist for five International Singer Songwriter Awards, a Josie Award for Female Music Video of the Year, and a Carolina Music Award for Country Female Vocalist of the Year in 2022. Her song “Catfish” recently won a World Songwriting Award for Best Modern Country Song and she just received three Rampage Music Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Album of the Year and Single of the Year.
She is currently nominated for seven International Singer Songwriter Awards, including “Entertainer of the Year” as well as three Josie Awards, including “Female Rising Star” and a Songwriter Achievement Award.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I got a later start with this industry. Actually I was ready to quit music altogether back in 2019 because of a toxic situation. I think my goals make me different…yes I want to be successful but my definition of “success” has changed.
I want to make sure I’m being really honest with my music and I believe vulnerability and telling your true story is the only way to help those that connect with your music. I want to use my platform – no matter how large or small – to make a difference for those that otherwise feel like their voice doesn’t matter.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
I have wanted to do this since I was four years old. The very first round I played in Nashville, after years of telling myself or having others tell me why I was unqualified, made me realize that is where I belonged all along. I’ve never felt more at home and in my element as that night. I felt powerful in that moment…like no matter what happened, I could handle it.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
My biggest challenge has always been my performance anxiety. My grandmother died when I was ten and it was like my rose colored glasses that had previously shaped my world were ripped off and broken. I became obsessed with perfection and thus, anxiety caused me to no longer be able to sing with any freedom. I spent years trying to get my anxiety under control so that I wouldn’t just freeze when I approached the mic to sing.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
Reba McEntire is my number one. She has always been my definition of someone sho has grit and amazing work ethic and ability to conquer anything.
Taylor Swift from a songwriter and marketing perspective.
Patty Griffin from a creative and songwriter perspective.
