What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I am different because I fought to be where I am at. It’s all due to a combination of hard work, talent, and resilience. I am a free spirit who knows how to win the battle and making a goal happen! On days when I could not feel my best, I still sang!
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
I realized I was meant to what I do what I started singing in between my survival jobs. I felt FREE! Singing is my ultimate form of expression. In fact, I find that singing is easier for me than talking since childhood.
I grew up closeted in a strict South Asian-American house-hold and community who was always looking to break free from the norm. Learning singing allowed me to have control over my talent and unleash an unexpected level of creativity.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
The biggest challenge is finding the time to make this happen without pay. I have unfortunately had to work from check to check and still kept the music alive in between having to work with a cruel boss and spiritually draining job. I’ve worked the most tedious of corporate and retail jobs – it was NO fun. But SINGING opened my mind.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
1) The A&R at an amazing label that embraces people from different walks of life
2) Shawn Mendes – so I can collaborate with him and his creative soul
3) Sam Smith – so I can collaborate with his universal musical sense and voice
