The Timeless Art of Being Yourself | DeAngelo Xavier

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

I’m a recording artist from Norfolk, VA. I found my passion for music at a young age from listening to the likes of Nas and Wu Tang. In my opinion im one of the best unknown artists in the area/world. Im a perfectionist and I take my craft seriously. I try to create visuals with my lyrics and touch on topics that reflect my personal life or things I’ve witnessed.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I don’t follow trends. I believe in the motto “being yourself never goes out of style”. I’m not into the gimmicks of rap. I’m DeAngelo Xavier. I’m 1 of 1. Honestly, not in a spiritual sense, but I feel like GOD like.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

I’ve always been good with words. Forming different rhyme schemes and flow patterns through poetry helped me find that talent. In middle school I was in an advanced English class (Junior Great Books) and I never followed the basic “ABAB” rhyme schemes. I always directed my attention to free verse writing. A few years later after graduating high school, i got a call from one of my homies asking me to come to the studio and try to put my poems to music and I couldn’t do it cause I didn’t know how to write to beats. So I took a year to study different cadences, how to ride the beat and just becoming an artist. When I touched the mic for the first time that’s when I knew it was go time.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

I think the most difficult time for me as an artist was just the process of learning myself and what I wanted to stand for. That year of me learning how to rap on instrumentals was tough because I’ve never tried and didn’t know exactly how to approach it. Even when I figured it out, the next challenge was trying to figure out who DeAngelo Xavier is and what I wanted to bring to the world of music.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

Jay Z, Diddy and Tu Pac. Jay Z and Diddy is kinda self explanatory. They know the ends and outs of this business to the core. They’ve built empires and that information is vital. Pac would’ve been a different type of meeting. I wish he was hear you give life advice to the masses because that’s what the youth is missing. He wasn’t just a rapper/performer, he was a human being first and I respected that the most.
