Gawne’s Instagram bio does not hedge: “World’s Fastest Rapper.” It is a big claim in a genre that has argued about speed since Twista and Busta Rhymes. But the Los Angeles-based rapper, born Luke Gawne, has the numbers to make people listen: about 1.1 million TikTok followers, 778,000 on Instagram, 432,000 YouTube subscribers and, by his count, more than 1 billion plays. So is he the fastest rapper alive? Here is the case.

Who is Gawne?

Gawne’s story starts with a setback. According to his official artist bio, he suffered a debilitating brain injury as a teenager that still affects his cognitive function. He had to leave high school and study from home, and because of vision problems from the injury he could not read or watch TV. Music became his therapy. He found hip-hop, started channeling his frustration into writing, and then started writing songs of his own.

He kept going in school too. His bio says he graduated at the top of his class from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with honors in accounting and marketing. Wikipedia lists him as being from Oak Park, Illinois, and on “RISE” he raps about “the homies outta OP.” Today his Instagram puts him in LA.

Is Gawne the fastest rapper alive?

He is certainly making the argument. His 2024 single “CHOPPER” is titled “CHOPPER (FASTEST RAP EVER),” and its video stages the song as a world record attempt, complete with a “World Record Organization” banner. It has more than 5 million views on YouTube. His official bio puts the skill this way: an “astonishing ability to rap at speed while remaining clear and coherent.” That last part is the point. Plenty of rappers can go fast; the hard part is keeping every word clear.

What there isn’t is an official ruling. Twista once held a Guinness record for speed rapping, and Eminem’s “Rap God” earned a Guinness title for the most words in a hit single. Gawne’s claim is his own, and the comment sections under his videos are where it gets argued. Watch it and decide for yourself.

Who has Gawne worked with?

The collaborations are part of why the claim lands. His biggest video, “THIS IS WAR” (2021), puts him next to Tech N9ne, the Strange Music co-founder known for his own rapid-fire flows, plus his longtime partner Atlus. It has more than 9.6 million views. He and Tech N9ne followed it with “RED” in 2023, and a 24-second clip of the two trading bars drew nearly 4 million more.

He has also made songs with Shaquille O’Neal (“CHAOS,” 2023), Rittz (“In My Bones,” 2020), Mac Lethal, Futuristic and Crypt (“DEATH TO MUMBLE RAP,” 2019, more than 5.6 million views) and KXNG Crooked and Craig Owens (“Hell to Pay,” 2018). His YouTube bio adds co-writing for a major Paramount film and placements on NBA on TNT, NBC and ABC.

Does Gawne only rap fast?

No. Some of his most-shared songs slow down to say something. “Take Me Home (SAVE OUR KIDS)” with Atlus (2024) is about school shootings, features the MUSYCA Children’s Choir, and was paired with charity merch. It has more than 2 million views. His albums lean personal too: Seven (2023), Rainy Days (2024) and COLORS (January 2026), followed this year by singles like “Overdose,” “I’m Not Okay,” “Oh My God!” and “Iceman.”
