Who is Alyson Indigo?

Alyson Indigo started writing songs in 2022, from a hospital bed. She was admitted to a hospital a few blocks from Lollapalooza, and watching the festival from her room, she says, lit something inside her. That was the beginning of the artist she is now.

She first released music under the alias Zeta Grl, including an intimate collection of demo tracks called Syntax. The writing on those early songs got attention, and it led to a collaboration with DJ Funsize, “Up Too Late,” which she says has passed 10,000 streams. As her sound moved further into electronic production, she relaunched under her own name with the single “California.” Songs from her earlier catalog, including “MOTHERGOOSE,” “The Female Gaze” and “UFO,” are still central to her sound.

How does a biophysics PhD student make pop music?

She gets the question a lot, in one of two forms. If she is doing a PhD, people assume music must be a hobby. If she is serious about music, science must be the day job. Alyson rejects both. She is committed to careers in science and in music, and she sees the two as feeding each other rather than competing for her time.

The connection is in how she works. A scientist and a producer both run experiments: change one variable, listen to what happens, keep what works, throw out what doesn’t. She brings that same habit of testing and problem-solving to her sessions, building each track by hand until it feels finished. Her press kit sums up the result as singer-songwriter intimacy at electronic scale.

What does “Call Me When You Think of It” sound like?

“Call Me When You Think of It” is her newest self-produced single and her latest step into the widescreen electronic pop of her 2026 releases. Like everything in her catalog, she wrote, recorded and produced it herself. Have a listen below.

If you are new to her, “California” is a good next stop. It was her debut single under the Alyson Indigo name and the start of the new chapter.
