Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
My name is Adouria, I am a comedian. It combines two of my favorite things, writing and making people laugh.
I’m very overly self aware, so I feel like that makes me comfortable with talking about things you might not discuss at a dinner table.
For me the goal is to say or joke about something that maybe one person in the audience has already thought but thinks it might be too weird to say.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m not afraid to say what some people might avoid saying. Who I am on stage is who I am off stage.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
I went to a comedy show, and thought “I think I could do that”. I grew up doing theatre and improv, so comedy and performing is so natural for me. The first person I told was my roommate Miranda.
I hid it from people for about a month because I’m still so new, I want to have more to show for what I am doing. Ever since it’s been a hustle; to write new jokes, open mics, booking shows, and promoting myself.
I’m still learning and have a long way to go.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced, and am still facing is the fact that I’m a nobody. That sounds terrible, but really it’s true.
I do feel like it says something that I’ve only been doing this for a few months and am already booking shows. I am hungry and trying to move as fast a possible.
