Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
I’m Edwin Malebye. A South African actor who is well known for working with various soapies on South African TV channels.
I’m doing a second interview with the LA Note Magazine. For this interview I’m doing now, I wanna let the world know about the projects I worked on last year of which are gonna be on screen this year 2022.
My last interview with the LA Note Magazine helped me a lot with getting exposure which led to landing roles for international series and telenovelas for Hope channel and Netflix, which I think could be my big breakthrough in this industry of acting.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
My acting is a combination of my real-life situation, theatre training, and plus self-trained acting. Also, I’m a multi-talented artist who is a screenplay scriptwriter, director, acting teacher, and owner of an upcoming multimedia production company.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
I knew acting was mine the first time I booked as a featured actor at The River on 1 Magic Season 4 as Drunk Man. I had no experience and qualifications but after my performance, all the directors, crew members, and actors were impressed by my performance.
When I got supporting roles at the international series titled Ludik Furniture and Carpet, a Netflix series for 2022, I didn’t audition for the role – I was just picked by the director out of the blue and the same thing that happened at The River happened here again.
The international directors, crew members, and international actors were impressed especially the famous actor Arnold Vosloo from the Mummy 1980’s movie who I was doing my scenes as Felix the warehouse manager on the series.
The last role I got, I was selected before I even auditioned. I was given a role for an international telenovela for Hope Channel Isinqumo Sami for 2022 as Guru, the gang boss in prison.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced is that all the agencies I worked with never believed in my craft but directors saw raw talent while the agencies looked down on me.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
I still wanna go with Netflix cause my dream is to become an international actor, not some local actor who works only in his country.
Black Brain productions cause that’s where actors with raw talent like me get big exposure in SA.
Stained Glass TV Productions because they produce good content and good actors so I believe that is where I can grow my craft even more.
