Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hello WORLD, my name is Jason C. Daniels and I AM an ACTOR! I simply LOVE being an actor. What is an actor, you ask me? An actor is a storyteller and I love being a part of the storytelling process. The storytelling process is a very collaborative effort of many different individuals who work together to bring a story to life and have an effect on an audience whether through theater or TV and Film.
Having an effect on an audience is a very profound experience for me and I hope to continue to do this until I am no longer on this earth.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I am that actor who will give you 110% each takeover and over even when I’m not on camera. As an actor, it is our obligation to be a team player and get the best from everyone even when it is not your time to be in front of the camera.
Again, actors are storytellers part of the storytelling process, which is a huge team effort and it is extremely important to be a team player and give 110% all the time.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
In 2005 I played the lead role of Sam Dean in the play “Praying Small” by Clifford Morts at what was then called The Actor’s Workshop Theatre (now called Redtwist Theatre) in Chicago, IL. This is a story about a charismatic young man whose life is ruined by alcohol and drugs but told with humility and humor.
The impact that character, my performance, and that story had on the audience was intense making them laugh out loud, gasp and cry… and I knew from that moment on this is what I was meant to be and do.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
Well… I’m going to be brave here and show some vulnerability, but that is one of our “jobs” as actors, to be vulnerable. For me, it is dealing with my mental health issues of anxiety and depression while trying to obtain work in Hollywood. Trying to work in Hollywood is tough enough but throw in struggles with anxiety and depression and it can be a recipe for disaster.
I’ve worked hard to overcome my struggles by seeking help from professionals and I’ve definitely learned how to deal with my struggles. It’s an ongoing battle but it is a battle I have to fight. I hope someday I can use my platform to help those who struggle with severe anxiety and depression.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
1.) Manager Brian Medavoy – I love his intelligence, his PASSION for his job and clients, and his willingness to give back to others in this business. I think we’d make a great team and could go as far as we wanted in this business.
2.) Casting Director Sharon Bialy – I think she and her Team do amazing work. They are deeply passionate about the work they do and who better to learn from to obtain work in Hollywood than her. Plus she just seems like a classy person with a good heart. And I love that she loves theatre and goes, not just in LA, but around the country and around the world.
AND, WHY NOT…
3.) Steven Spielberg – need I even write why? Plus, I’d like to really thank him for making me scared as you know what for swimming in lakes during the summer growing up in Wisconsin even though I know it’s impossible for a shark to be in a freshwater… but talk about a story having an impact on your life!
