Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hello, I am Michael Fulcher, a self-taught digital and mixed-media artist who lives in Lenoir, North Carolina. My artworks are inspired by comic books about changing seasons and the wildlife of the forest. I spend my free time painting, reading comics and art books for inspiration. I have been drawing and illustrating all my life.
Since I saw my first cartoon “The Thunder Cats”, I fell in love with art and animation. Ever since then, I always wanted to become an artist of some sort. I love painting landscapes and nature! Over the years I have learned to draw and paint all on my own. Hopefully one day I can inspire someone to do what they love to do in life.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I keep my word. Its very important to keep your word. Call me old school but a man is nothing if he can’t keep his word or promise to someone.
Consistency. You have to be consistent in any field in any industry. It doesn’t matter what it is you’re doing. You have to keep going, whether its painting a great masterpiece or writing a great novel.
I am very dependable – your family and your family’s name depend on doing the best work you can do. These days, it’s very rare to know a person who is dependable.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
COVID. A few month before COVID happened, I lost my job at a local retail store. I was feeling pretty low about myself, losing my job with no money in the bank, until I started posting my artwork on my social media: Instagram and twitter.
I started to gain followers and people loved my artwork. Sold a few art pieces along the way. Met some great people on there and some great friends.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
The biggest challenge I had to go through is the loss of my dad, David Fulcher. He died of stomach cancer in 2012. It is always a hard thing to live knowing you will not hear from or see them again. Knowing you can’t go to them for advice, to listen to their stories anymore. You have pictures and memories of them but it’s not the same. You just have to live without them, to keep going, you know. That is what they would want from you – to keep living.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
Sparkle Soojian. Her work with her community along with the surrounding business she has established that she promotes on her show “Everything Sparkle”.
Thunder Rosa. A professional wrestler and former mixed martial artist. She inspires hundreds of people to live life to the fullest.
Richard Friend. An inker and comic book artist that has a great YouTube channel. I love to meet him to learn and talk about the comic book world and how it inspires people to draw. I wish to learn more about all the great artists in the industry
