Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
Hello, my name is Brie. I’m a singer-songwriter originally from Asheville, NC.
I’m a bit of an introvert but I’ve got a big voice and love to entertain. I write original songs and love singing with friends. I love making my own album art and music videos too!
I now live in Burbank, CA. I’ve been singing for a long time! I’ve been fortunate to play legendary venues from NYC to California and I made it to Hollywood week on American Idol in 2018.
I have a new record out called Rainbow Stained recorded at legendary Sound Emporium in Nashville and my Christmas song “Merry Christmas (I love you)” is the perfect holiday tune for your playlist!
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m plus size, funny, and love solo adventures.
I drove myself cross country for the third time this past year to make it back to LA. I enjoy oddities, Halloween, and B movies. I have a smaller account called Luci Acoustix where I write fun Halloween songs and model horror aesthetic outfits.
I love taking folks along on adventures via my Instagram when I discover new things in towns that I’m touring or even to the grocery store. I love a good thrift find too! I have no issue modeling a look.
My music is me. Observational, ironic, and heartfelt and I want to know that my questions, my worries, my happy days, and sad days are happening to other people.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
I feel like we all have an incredible gift and opportunity to examine and experience this world through our own unique human lenses. We can share and heal one another through our own experiences and find love and strength when needed through art and storytelling.
I love being able to make someone laugh or give them a safe space to cry and feel. That feeling never goes away.
The lens I see the world through doesn’t seem to fade it just gets added to. It’s more multifaceted as I get older.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
I think navigating my own internal monologue has always been a battle for me.
I wasn’t aware that I had anxiety until later in life. So a lot of my school years and on were spent lonely and overcompensating because I had social anxiety.
I thought everyone overthought and shook out of nervousness when eating or waiting in the pizza line. I thought folks played out doom scenarios as a form of self-soothing before tests or cried at night when I said the “wrong” thing.
It wasn’t until later through therapy and self-help I was able to examine patterns a bit better and find myself more. I think also coming to grips with my bi-sexuality helped a lot.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
I would love to meet Adele’s (Jonathan Dickins) manager. I envy her authenticity and business model for making records and being herself.
Greg Dacyshyn aka Ivan Koloff – love his style and creative work
Ashley Graham – I want to learn more about plus-size modeling. My sister is an amazing plus-size model and it would be a dream to meet Ashley and introduce her to my sister. I daydream about doing a sister shoot for Vogue one day.
