Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
My name is Kayden Muller-Janssen, I am a singer and actress. I fell in love with the arts when I was a little girl and haven’t looked back since. It’s the one career path I can see myself doing for the rest of my life, and I am blessed to have family and friends who have supported me from the start. Honestly, I am just a small town girl with a big dream who is trying to pave the way for other girls just like me so they can believe that they can do anything they set their mind to.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
That is a hard question to answer, but I guess what makes me different from everyone else in the industry is my personality and the way I perceive the world. I’ve always had a sunny disposition .Since I was a kid, I marched to my own beat and I always try to have a positive outlook on life. I can’t speak for others but I feel my only competition is in the mirror.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
When I was around eight years old, I sang Happy Birthday (the Beyoncé version) to one of our family friends for his birthday. The reaction on everyone’s face when I finished singing was enough to tell me and my family that I could make a career out of my voice and personality. After that day, I started taking vocal lessons and acting classes…the rest is history! My mom was the most supportive of them all when I told her I wanted to seriously pursue the arts as a career. She always pushed me in the best way, even when I wanted to give up, she was always there for me. I will never forget that, because without her, I wouldn’t have this career or my dream job.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
So far, my biggest challenge in this industry was learning not to take the “no’s” personally. When you’re an actress, you do hundreds and hundreds of auditions. Most of the time you never hear back, and sometimes you get so close to landing the role, but then they choose the other person. That was something I had to learn to not take to heart.
What was your reaction when you found out you had landed the role of Hartley on The Villains of Valley View?
When I found out I landed the part of Hartley on The Villains of Valley View I actually fell to my knees and cried. I was so happy that not only had all my hard work paid off, but my inner child was going to live out her dream of being on Disney!
If you had to describe Hartley in 3 words, what would they be?
If I only had three words, I would describe Hartley as a “ball of sunshine.”
What is your favorite part of working with the cast of the show?
My favorite part of working with the cast is how much fun we have together! We always love to prank each other and joke around on set. We feel like a family and I think that really shows on screen.
You’ve said in other interviews that you grew up as a fan of Disney. If you could play one character from a past Disney show or movie, who would it be and why?
If I could play one character from a past Disney movie it would be Princess Tiana. She was the first black princess on Disney. I hadn’t seen a princess that looked like me at the time, so I’ve always admired her. It would be a dream to play that role, especially in a live action film!
You are also a singer/songwriter. What is your favorite song that you’ve ever written?
My favorite song I have ever written is one of my unreleased songs “Just a Game.” It is a song I wrote a little while ago. It is still in the works so I can’t share it yet, but I am very excited to get it finished so everyone can hear.
What can fans expect from your upcoming EP?
The songs that will be on the EP have been in the making for the past few years, and I think they all sound different in their own way. I am very excited for everyone to hear this EP and for what will be coming after it as well!
What is one interesting thing your fans don’t know about you?
I love animals and will literally rescue any animal I see in trouble…especially turtles! There have been times where my friends have gotten mad at me because I pulled over to help a turtle or something cross the road.
What advice would you give to other young people who want to pursue acting?
Don’t give up, even if your faced with constant no’s. If this is really something you truly aspire to do, you eventually will get that one yes and that may just kickstart your entire acting career.
You grew up in a family of accomplished Equestrians. What do you enjoy most about riding and working with horses?
My favorite part about working with horses is trail riding with my pony around my hometown. We ride for hours, go swimming in the canals, and ride through the McDonald’s drive-thru! I’m really glad I had this experience as a kid because, in a world filled with technology and materialistic things, it is easy to become disconnected from nature. Horses are so amazing and they really make you appreciate nature more. It’s truly a blessing to be able to own and ride such majestic creatures.
What do you have coming up that you can tell us about?
I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say I have some really exciting things in the works and I can’t wait to share them with everyone!
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
There are so many people I would love to meet but if I can only choose three, I would say Charlize Theron, Jessie Reyez, and Zendaya! They are strong women that I’ve looked up to since I started in the entertainment industry, and it would be a dream to meet or maybe even work with them someday.
