Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hi! My name is Hollie Rhiannon and I am an indie alternative musician from a small town in Cumbria, UK.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
After losing several years of my life to severe mental health, and almost losing it completely at one point, I decided to make real, raw music that showcased exactly who I was and what I was about. All of my lyrics are spoken directly from the heart and I have so much to say!! I want my songs to bring comfort to people who are struggling to find their own words so that they don’t have to suffer in silence like I did.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
When I released my first three singles, I had a number of people contact me. One that sticks out the most was from a guy who had heard my debut singles “The Dark Days’ and ‘you got this, kid’. He was going through a lot of similar things and he was struggling to find someone who he could voice his thoughts to. He reached out to tell me that it was the first time he really felt like he was being ‘heard’ and wanted to thank me for doing what I did. They were acoustic versions and i honestly expected no one to listen to them. That was the moment I realised that I wanted to do nothing else but continue to make music for people like me.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
I’ve always had pretty bad anxiety and never felt like I fit in anywhere. Recently I was diagnosed with Asperger’s, a form of autism. It explained so much of my life and why i am the way that I am. My biggest challenge was actually putting myself out there, because I was so afraid of what people would think of me. I knew that in order to do what I’m doing, I had to break out of my shell and just go for it. I still get nervous now before a show, but I’m really glad i took the steps forward to make it happen.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
Lindsey Buckingham – to me, I think he’s one of the greatest guitar players of all time and I would love nothing more than to sit down with him and talk all things guitar. Imagine how cool that would be!!
Phoebe Bridgers – purely for no other reason than I would love to make music with her. Her voice, her sound and her aesthetic is just something that I adore and I aspire to make sad girl anthems the way she does
Joni Mitchell – I’ve always been very fond of Joni’s work growing up and her story is one to admire, especially in recent years where she has basically re-learnt everything all over again.
