Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hey, Jenna Leigh Miller here! You fellow actor/ singer/ dancer based in NYC! I am also a Social Media Manager for Arts Based Small Businesses such as Coloring Broadway, Broadway Kids Auditions, Double Name Witches & more! I own my own theatre & brand coaching business for actors called Problem Solved by Jenna! ( @ProblemSolvedbyJenna) I love helping creatives use social media to further their career, book that dream contract & feel more confident about what they have to offer! I can be seen performing next at The White Plains Performing Arts Center’s production of Side Show then at Cumberland County Playhouse playing Tammy in Escape to Margaritaville.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I am a curvy, curly-haired beltress who genuinely likes to cheer other performers on. I am a firm believer that we need to share each other’s name in rooms of opportunity & lift each other up, not tear each other down. I do that everyday with my clients.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.Â
Ok, join me on this journey. I was on Brownie’s trip to NYC going to see my very first Broadway show, Beauty & the Beast (starring Christy Carlson Romano) where my mom was a chaperone. She said my back didn’t touch the seat the entire show because I was leaned into the stage so much. When we were leaving the theatre I leaned over to my mom & said, “I’m going to do that one day.”
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
My biggest challenge choosing a career in the Musical Theatre Industry is that I am 100% not a “cookie-cutter”, blonde ingenue. I am a curvy, kick my face, loud actor who isn’t afraid to show off my personality. I went through college not being seen as a dancer because I was plus size. I was told I couldn’t keep up with real dancers at the school. Side note- I love auditioning. Like reallyyyy love it. And I was always on top of Summerstock auditions. And the summer on my freshman year I got cast in my first professional production- High School Musical playing Martha Cox AND being the Dance Captain. It’s amazing, when I went back to school, I was moved up to the next dance level & I was looked at differently. I am not cookie-cutter & I am proud of that! Yes, I’m curvy. Yes, I’m loud. Yes, I can kick & belt my face off. *mic drop*
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Â Why these specific individuals?
I would LOVE to meet & connect with Bonnie Milligan because she is a plus sized Broadway Goddess that I could learn so much from! Katie Sturino (founder of Megababe) to give me all the biz tips. She runs an incredible business & I am in love with all her products! And Amber Ardolino because she is a Musical Theatre Reels QUEEN!
