Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
Heyy, I’m Sasha. I’m a 22 year old Singer & model from Southwest Philly. I sing because it’s something that is apart of me. It’s like a best friend and therapy.
My voice has been with me for so long & I cannot describe how blessed I feel to have it. It has helped me so much! I sing & write music because I want people to be able to relate. Modeling is very fun!
I love fashion, I’ve loved it since I was little and my mother is also into fashion, she sews and designs. Modeling so much to it than just looking nice.
When I do it, I want to inspire people, you know I want women & girls to see someone who looks like them. Other than that, it’s very fun. Aside from singing and modeling I am in school for nursing.
I started off as a biology pre- med but after my sophomore year changed to nursing.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
It could be said that I am a jack of all trades. I don’t like to limit myself.
People always want you to stick to one path in life but I don’t think that one should limit their possibilities and abilities. You could be talented in different things and should pursue them!
Never limit yourself. When it comes to music I am very passionate. Words really can’t describe how much I love music and singing. I enjoy all types of music and am very influenced. As currently I am working on putting out my own music, I write a lot.
I have one song that I have been performing so far it’s called “can’t help myself” i will be releasing it soon as well as an ep. The music that I want to put out is music that people can listen to and relate.
I don’t just want to put out anything. My reason for that is because the music that I grew up with and enjoyed had meaning.
You could listen to it and tell that the artist took their time on their craft and put in experience where you feel it or listen and it helps you. That’s what I want to do.
I want to be able to listen to my music and like it and make it relatable so that it can help people. I feel like the music being put out today you don’t always see that often.
Everything is tiktok and making a quick single but a body of art, and amazing heartfelt album is missing these days. With modeling I am just myself.
I model what I like & don’t allow myself to be pressured into anything I don’t like. That’s something to be careful for in this industry. Something that also makes me unique is that I am very invested.
I invest in in my craft a lot. I feel that investing in your craft/ future with time & money helps a lot. It shows that you’re not only taking yourself seriously but other will also take you seriously.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
I was 8 when I began singing and actually found my voice. The story is actually interesting. Before that I never really sang, I mean I was in plays and talent shows but I felt like I use to scream haha.
I remember a year before I actually found my voice when I was 7, I was in a talent show and I was singing and at one point i did this big like vocal scream and so many people laughed ugh haha.
It only got embarrassing because it was brought up a lot. Well when I was 8 my mother and bought Beyoncé’s I am Sasha fierce album. I didn’t know who she was but when my mother was driving me and my sister to school one day she played to album in the car and I was just like “wow I love her voice and music”.
From that moment I just played the album and started listening to her music in my room. I feel like that is when I started teaching myself how to harmonize. I began getting in to music so much more. I would learn songs and stay up all night practicing and perfecting my voice.
I’d have a recorder and record myself then work on what didn’t sound good. I didn’t really tell anyone. I was very shy back then to sing even in front of my family except for my twin sister. She use to just get these free concerts haha and it was natural for her to hear me.
One day my mother over heard me and she was like very amazed. My mother asked my sister and she was just like “oh yeah she sings” haha. My voice became a best friend to me and I loved it so much I always sang and started singing in front of people more. On stage and at talent shows I felt so comfortable.
I never felt nervous. I stared modeling last year (2020) actually. I started doing photoshoots and getting really into it. I tried to look up good photographers to work with and started working on my portfolio.
A modeling casting agency in New York had contacted me and I started working with them & I guess that was a big help in putting me out to the public a bit more.
I started to do different shoots and even modeled in music videos. I’ve met so many amazingly talent people since then model and music related. I really enjoy modeling.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge while being apart of this industry life is sacrifice. I sacrifice a lot for my work. As I said I am very big on investing and I do just that! A lot of time goes into what I do and I often get very busy.
Friends and family sometimes get upset that I’m very busy. I never really get that much free time as I’m always working on my craft and school and such.
I overcome by trying to make time & balance out my life. To beat the challenge of any obstacle you have to keep going. Rejection or road block just keep going. Sometimes you feel discouraged but you have to have a mindset that your on of the best and work towards being that.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Wow, there are so many that influence me! I’d say that top three would be Beyoncé, Mariah Carey & prince (rip).
All three artist and amazingly talented and I’d love to talk to them about their song writing skills and advice they really inspire me. Not only when one can sing but write as well is such a gift.
