Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hi! My name is Simone Laurant and I’m an experienced model and actress from San Francisco, CA. I’ve only been in the industry for about 5 years but I’ve worked for some of the largest companies on the planet. A couple of years ago i started the Say Cheese Crew with my brother Baron. Our members share super big smiles in their communities through volunteering.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m not even 9 and I’ve been in some really cool stuff! During the olympics I got to play a mini Olympic Gold Medalist Mikaela Shiffrin in Xfinity commercials. I’m also the voice of Leapfrog’s new Alphapup. Being the voice of a toy is so cool but so weird! Press a button and hear my voice as a dog, lol. It’s also cool seeing yourself on other toy boxes in the same aisle and in stores across the world. What makes me different is I’m my own vibe. I post what I feel like and people say they enjoy my silliness.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
When I auditioned for the Olympics commercials, the notes just mentioned a girl that was mimicking Mikaela Shiffrin as she warmed up. Before reading that I didn’t know who she was so I searched her races on youtube. I created a costume with my hockey gear and cardboard skis and recorded my audition. When we got on set the Directors (Similar But Different) showed me a couple of amazing looking cardboard ski sets they built based on my video. They said my audition video inspired the wardrobe for the commercials! Being in LA on set with big snow and fire machines, and a giant crew dedicated just to my scene was so cool. That was my moment.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
As a kid I don’t like missing school. When I have shoots I have a teacher on set but I love real school so much I don’t like missing days there with my friends. Not knowing if or when you can be booked is challenging. Covid restrictions have given me more notice before shoots and it’s been easier to plan in advance. Shooting during covid is challenging and turns one day shoots into a week. The Olympics commercial for example was just a one day shoot but we had to go to LA days in advance to covid test 24 hours prior to fitting, have the fitting, wait two down days, covid test again 24 hours prior to shoot, etc. Since I’m a minor my parent on set has to do the same.
