South African Actor, Edwin Malebye, Is Paving His Way To The Top By Producing His Own TV Series
Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
I’m Edwin Malebye from Gauteng Pretoria
I’m an upcoming actor in South Africa. I’ve worked with a few productions in the industry of Filmmaking. I’m also a screenplay writer and director. I have projects which are still in the making and I would love to get recognized by people who can sponsor my production company that deal with shooting short stories, series, Tv shows and also provide actors, singers, dancers, and models.
The love of being in the media comes from my childhood. I was one of those people called a “feleb” on Facebook from 2014. I was writing motivational posts, Stories, and poems to inspire people who are facing different problems in their lives. Many of my posts inspired school kids, teenagers, young adults, and also adults.
My posts were appreciated by thousands of people on social media. People used to inbox me and tell me that my post helped them solve whatever situation they facing whether relationships, family matters, or money. I was guiding people through social media. People who don’t know me in person. From there, I decided to take my stories into reality. I shot short films for Youtube and Facebook that talk about life to encourage people not to give up on whatever they facing in life.

While shooting my own stories I read about the industry. I try to learn more and understand it. From there, I started working on my acting skills. I didn’t know anything until I went to MTV Shuga auditions in 2017 without an agent. My performance got the judges shocked but I didn’t win the casting and I never gave up.
I kept trying until I met some student guy from TUT art Campus. Khutso Khuze was doing filmmaking and he offered me a small role…he said I looked the part for that role. It was a no paying gig, but it taught me a lot because I was working around actors who were doing theatre at the same school. I was the only non-experienced actor there with no education but knew few tips about what I read on the internet.
After working with Khutso Khuze Nkadimeng and posted his work on my social media platform, people started to notice me. I started getting followers from celebrities and then I knew acting was a calling and started to learn and hustle hard and I met a lady on the street one day who was a coordinator at Becky Casting agency for Ifalakhe. Her name is Grace Maluleka. She offered me background actor gigs and on my first day at the shoot, I was offered a bit role with no lines but actions and emotions.
I worked for background acting for three years getting featured roles with no lines then finally this year God heard my prayers and answered. He made it possible for me. He blessed me with a small supporting role in one of the most popular drama series named: The River…as a drunk man sabotaging a lady named Tshepiso at the tavern for being lesbian.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
What makes me different is that I don’t do copy and paste. I work hard to be different and noticed. My acting skills are a combination of my real life and what I face in reality. I have everything they need in the industry..the fashion style, acting skills, film directing skills, and scriptwriting…with no Qualification but Raw talent

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since
that moment?
I knew acting was mine when I first met celebrities and felt like I’m of them…I felt free around them and they gave me attention by asking for it. When I went to auditions and directors talk to me like they’ve known me for years every time I audition.
On background acting, Directors always wanted me in front of the cam and cast..something told me one day I’ll be getting roles with lines and I feel God is still going to bless with more after getting that one on the river 1Magic Channel Season 4.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
Feeling rejected in the industry when I have everything they need..and I’m still trying to overcome it by working hard on my craft every day…attend auditions until they recognize that i’m a hard worker who will never give up on his dreams
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
