Most photographers look for a pretty backdrop. Alexa Jade looks for lines. The Los Angeles portrait and fashion photographer, who posts as @alexa.jadee, scouts the city for staircases, fountains, glass and the shadows buildings throw at the right hour. Then she puts a person in the middle of it. Her TikTok is a working notebook: where she shot, why the spot works, and what the final images look like.

Who is Alexa Jade?

Alexa Jade describes herself as a portrait, fashion and lifestyle photographer based in LA. Many of her videos open the same way (“Hi, I’m Alexa, I’m a photographer in LA”) and then gets to the useful part. Her account has been around since 2022, but she started posting in earnest in 2025 and has put up more than 100 videos so far in 2026.

Her photos lean on light and geometry: a ray of sun cutting across a sidewalk, reflections in a window, a mirror used as a frame. “Sometimes it’s just being creative with what’s in front of you,” she wrote on one recent post. Her formal training, she joked in October, includes “one dark room class in high school.”

Why are her location breakdowns worth watching?

Her most-viewed video, with about 24,000 views, walks through a portrait shoot in Glendale. “I just love, shockingly, the architecture, the lines, the colors,” she says. She points out the fountain in the middle of the plaza, the stairs she climbed to shoot down on her subject, and a building next door she hadn’t scouted that “looks like Legos.” Then she shows the finished images.

That format repeats across her feed: scouting in Downtown LA “playing with lines, shapes and light,” shooting around one of her favorite downtown hotels and a spot she found on Google Maps. She has also posted that you don’t need a studio to make good work. Some of her favorite images were shot at home, which, she admits, “does happen to have great lighting.”

What camera does Alexa Jade use?

In November 2025 she bought a Ricoh GR II, a compact that has a cult following among street photographers. Her film point-and-shoot had died that summer, and with film prices up she was “kind of only shooting on my medium format.” The Ricoh became her everyday camera, and her post about it drew about 19,500 views. Viewers kept asking about it, so she posted a follow-up in June with a short answer: “get this camera!!”

The scam warning every photographer should hear

One of Alexa’s most useful videos has nothing to do with lighting. In January 2026 she described a commercial job offer that looked real. It came with a pitch deck and a full plan for new website photos of a high-end luxury apartment complex. Then the details stopped adding up:

  • She couldn’t find the creative director online, not even on LinkedIn.
  • The client already had models booked through an agency, and wanted her to pay them.
  • She couldn’t find the agency contact either, and payment would come by check or through QuickBooks.

When she searched the agency’s name with the word “scam,” she found another photographer, she believes in LA, who had received almost the same pitch. “It all felt really legit, but just like, something about it didn’t quite match up,” Alexa said. Her advice: “If anyone gets a weird email that kind of sounds like this, just beware.”

Who has Alexa Jade worked with?

Alongside portrait clients, she photographs events. This summer she shot two for Posse LA, one featuring the frozen-fruit brand TruFru and an end-of-summer celebration. She has taken her camera out of the city too. One fall shoot moved from her usual architecture to a farm, complete with horses. In October she announced a run of mini sessions at a few LA locations before traveling later in the month, with booking by DM or through the email in her bio.
