Who’s who in the Wu-Tang Clan
RZA

RZA built the Wu-Tang sound in his Staten Island basement studio and has always been the group’s leader. He produced most of the classic solo albums, created the alter ego Bobby Digital, scored films including Ghost Dog and the Kill Bill soundtrack, and directed The Man with the Iron Fists (2012).
GZA

GZA, “the Genius,” is RZA’s cousin and the oldest member. His 1995 album Liquid Swords is widely ranked among the best hip-hop albums ever made.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA’s other cousin, was the group’s wild card, with a singing, slurring style nobody could copy. His debut Return to the 36 Chambers came out in 1995. He died in a New York studio on November 13, 2004.
Method Man

Method Man released the first Wu-Tang solo album, Tical, in 1994 and won a Grammy with Mary J. Blige for “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By.” He has also acted in How High, The Wire and Power Book II: Ghost.
Raekwon

Raekwon, “the Chef,” made Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… (1995), the album that revived mafioso rap and introduced Cappadonna.
Ghostface Killah

Ghostface Killah grew up in Staten Island’s Stapleton Houses with RZA and helped him start the group. He is the most prolific solo member, with Ironman and Supreme Clientele as fan favorites.
Inspectah Deck

Inspectah Deck is known for the opening verse of “Triumph” from Wu-Tang Forever, one of the most celebrated verses in the group’s catalog.
U-God

U-God (Lamont Hawkins) missed much of 36 Chambers while in prison. His 2018 memoir is called Raw: My Journey into the Wu-Tang.
Masta Killa

Masta Killa was the least experienced rapper of the nine when the group formed and appears on 36 Chambers only on “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’.” His first solo album, No Said Date, came out in 2004.
Cappadonna

Cappadonna debuted on Raekwon’s Cuban Linx and Ghostface’s Ironman, released The Pillage in 1998 and later became an official member.
