FRANK MAZA Shares New Single ‘JULIA’

Debut Album Produced by Latin Grammy Winning Producer Javier Limón
And Featuring Some Of Latin Music’s Biggest Stars:
Chucho Valdés, Daymé Arocena, and Iván “Melón” Lewis

May 8, 2026 – New York, NY:  Frank Maza shares a new track ‘Julia’ today, taken from his debut album Back Then, to be released June 19 via Casa Limón. This is the second single from the LP and follows ‘Los Inmortales featuring the legendary Chucho Valdés with the video seeing over 100k plays on YouTube.

The song ‘Julia’ is born from rhythm. At its core is Afro-Cuban rumba, specifically the language of guaguancó, one of the most sophisticated rhythmic systems to emerge in the 20th century. But this is not a traditional rumba. It breathes alongside Dominican bachata and flamenco, not as separate genres, but as relatives rediscovering one another.

Producer Javier Limón says: “The rhythmic foundation connects directly to Africa. You feel it not only in the percussion, but in the choral voices that accompany Frank throughout the song. These voices function almost as a ceremonial response grounding the English lyric in something ancestral and collective.”

Percussionist on the track, Yuri Nogueira’s presence is essential. He represents the living tradition of Cuban rumba, the inheritance of masters like Tata Güines. His playing is not decorative; it carries history in every phrase.

Limón continues: And then there is New York.

New York is where many of these cultural conversations became amplified. It is the city of Lorca’s Poet in New York. It is where Caribbean musicians and American jazz players shaped new identities in the 20th century. The energy of that cosmopolitan exchange lives inside this recording, not as imitation, but as atmosphere.

Frank writes in English, but the soul of the rhythm speaks multiple languages. That is what makes ‘Julia’ honest. It reflects the reality of a new generation, people who belong to more than one place at once.

This is not a song about fusion.
It is a song about continuity.

And about remembering that the distance between Havana, Andalusia, Santo Domingo, and New York is closer than we think.”

Frank Maza talks about the song: “Julia” is my version of a letter you never send. There’s maybe a small subconscious nod to Hey There Delilah, that direct, conversational honesty. It’s about the one that got away, but without drama.

Just acceptance and a little regret. What made it really special was the musical journey, shifting from guaguancó to bachata and back. It was so much fun to let the rhythm mirror the emotional shifts. In the end everyone has their ‘Julia’.”

Maza is a talented producer in his own right, working with Alejandro Sanz, Kiki Morente, and Carmen Linares to name a few and grew up immersed in his father, Javier Limón’s studio in Madrid, naturally surrounded by some of the greatest talents in Latin, Cuban, and flamenco music.

At just five years old, he played piano four-hands with Bebo Valdés. He witnessed firsthand the recording sessions of Paco de Lucía. These were formative, living experiences. Limón jokes that ‘Francisco Limón Junior’ wouldn’t be a great name for his son to work with so, ‘Frank Maza’ was born, an artist blending the past with the present.

His debut LP blends multiple genres: American, Jazz and Latin music with a healthy dose of Cuban and flamenco elements. The set was produced by multiple Latin Grammy Award winning producer Javier Limón and features some heavy hitters from the Latin and Jazz worlds including Chucho Valdés, Daymé Arocena, and Iván “Melón” Lewis.

Back Then comes from a musical triangle that has defined Casa Limón’s identity for more than twenty years. Limón began producing flamenco in Madrid and with the arrival of top Cuban musicians and the cultural impact of the film Calle 54, Cuban music became the second pillar of his sound. At the same time, the influence of New York jazz emerged as a third pillar, adding harmonic sophistication and rhythmic depth.

Maza and Limón will announce a North American tour soon with lots of friends joining along the way. Each show will be totally unique and promise its own special surprises.
