He spent eight years building a name in Philly’s Christian rap scene. Then he won the HOLY SMOKE! Cypher, landed on Sway in the Morning, and went back to work on Monday.
When DJ Mykael V walked into the Sway in the Morning studio this month, he brought five rappers: Jackie Hill Perry, Parris Chariz, C4 Crotona, Nate Rose, and a Philadelphia MC named Aable. Most of those names have years of national touring behind them. Aable was introduced a different way, as the man who had just won the 2026 HOLY SMOKE! Cypher.
On air he didn’t talk like a man who had arrived. According to Rapzilla’s write-up of the visit, he talked about the weight of a bigger audience while he still works a 9-to-5 and comes home to a wife and kids. He also explained the name. For him it is a daily reminder of his own limits, and of leaning on God’s strength instead of his own.
That tension runs through everything he has put out. Aable makes music for people who have jobs, families and bills and still want a verse to carry some weight. Last year’s catalog proves he can rap. This year proved other people have noticed.

Discipleship first, then the music
Aable has been putting songs out since at least 2018, when Rapzilla premiered “Lovin’ It,” a Klae Beats production about being, in the outlet’s words, madly in love with God. In 2019 he followed with videos for “Think Too Much” and “Sweet,” and Rapzilla’s description of him from that year still fits:
An artist from Philly committed to seeing music and discipleship come together in a dynamic way.
Rapzilla, 2019
The stated goal is to hand believers deep but simple truths they can carry out into the world. That’s a plain ambition, and it’s the reason his songs feel like they’re meant to be used, not just played.
He also showed up for his city. On “That Philly Jawn,” a Christ-centered cypher shot and assembled by Jomil Nazario, Aable trades verses with Q-flo, Prodi, BelievinStephen and takeflight. The point of the video was to give local artists a stage. In 2022 Rapzilla ran a feature arguing that Christian rap from Philadelphia should no longer be slept on. The city that produced the Cross Movement had a new bench, and Aable was on it.

Winning the room at Esperanza
The clearest early sign of what he could do came at Rapzilla’s 16 Bar Challenge, held at the Esperanza campus in Philadelphia during the God in the City conference. The format is unforgiving. You get sixteen bars, three judges (that day Loso, Tee-Wyla and OnBeatMusic) and a crowd that has heard every punchline before. Aable beat Brenno in the second semifinal, then took the final against T-Coda.
Brenno went on to win his own Sway in the Morning slot at HOLY SMOKE! in 2025. A year later it was Aable’s turn.
MUSICAL CHAIRS and the national radar
In 2024 Aable released MUSICAL CHAIRS. When the Rapzilla Awards nominees were announced that December, the record was on the Album of the Year list and Aable was up for Breakout Artist of the Year, in a field with C4 Crotona, Will Kellum, KRL, tylerhateslife and gio. Gio. took the readers’ vote. Still, being on that ballot told a wider audience that the Philly rapper with the double-A name was worth hearing.
He kept up the pace. “threeforthree” arrived in April 2025, and “that’s all i know” followed in July. He also turned up on “HARD OUT HERE!” with DJ Mykael V and Gavin the HotRod, which tied him to the DJ who would put him on the radio a year later.
HOLY SMOKE! and what comes next
HOLY SMOKE! ran August 6–8, 2026 at Rocketown in Nashville. The cypher is the festival’s showcase for MCs. Aable won it, and his verse was released on DJ Mykael V’s HOLY SMOKE! CYPHER 2026 EP. The same month brought “KNOCK KNOCK,” out August 14, and the 2026 HOME EP is on streaming services too.
Then came Sway in the Morning, where Aable sat beside artists he had probably studied, said his name, and rapped. He didn’t come with a breakout single or a label campaign. He has eight years of steady, purposeful work and a habit of winning the room when it matters.
It is hard to build an audience with a day job and a family waiting at home. Aable is doing it anyway, and he hears it as part of the message: whatever he has, he didn’t produce on his own strength. Put on MUSICAL CHAIRS, then the cypher verse, then “KNOCK KNOCK.” You’ll hear where the name comes from.
