Army Veteran Lavern Spruil On The Power Of Determination And Making Dreams A Reality

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

My name is Lavern Spruill. I’m an army veteran, award-winning film director, writer, producer, and CEO of LV Magazine, LLC, and LV Media Productions. I created my media company to help others by giving them a platform to express and show their talent.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I’m a fan of indie horror films, and I turned three of my screenplays into Books, called the “Three Books of Horror Project.” My genuine aspiration is to show young film directors that they can become authors through their writings and creativity. In all my films I’ve always casts talented kids. So this year 2022 I decided to venture into other genres just so I can create something more light and fun for the kids. I wrote to screenplays, an animation and the other project is a short musical both releasing this year.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

At a very young age, I’ve always loved the creative arts, particularly music and visual arts. After graduating from high school I worked different jobs but I wanted more of an adventure so I decided to join the United States Army. While in the Army, I continued my education in Business Management while studying Art and Music Appreciation at Enterprise Community College in Enterprise, AL.

Now I’m the CEO of my own media company and this is exactly what i love to do. Also from my experience in the military, I enjoy traveling and has had the privilege of working alongside the Peace Corps in Ukraine’s humanitarian mission. I’ve traveled to Paris, Germany, Kuwait, Ukraine, and Sweden.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

My biggest challenge was always caring about how people will receive my films. I had to learn a lot about the industry through trial and error. I overcame these challenges by learning all aspects of filmmaking so I could be more confident in the outcome.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet?

Spike Lee is writing and way of thinking intrigues me.
Second would be Shonda Rhimes. Grey’s Anatomy Was beyond Genius.

Third Beyoncé. Lemonade was also the work of a genius. Lemonade inspired me to write and produce my next project. It would be a dream to work with all three someday.
