Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.
I’m Abbey Harris and currently, I am working on a TV show called Snowfall in the COVID department. Ideally, I would be making my money from a myriad of artistic endeavors including acting, painting, and writing, but that day will come. I pursue all of those because they help me make sense of the world around me. I tend to get overwhelmed and artistic practices help me process.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I have no interest in dropping my other interests. I understand doing one ‘thing’ would make me more marketable, but ultimately it would not make me happier. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but I am going to find success celebrating myself as a well-rounded artist.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
The first time I performed, I remember experiencing so much clarity. That was the moment I knew that it had to remain in my future. As I said earlier, I tend to get overwhelmed, and performing somehow helped me drop my anxieties at the door and move without overthinking. This continues to be true for me and is the reason I can’t let myself give up on my dreams.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
My own damn brain and then of course finances. I have a couple of thousand dollars of student debt to pay off and some deep-rooted imposter syndrome that I am working through. I do what I can to not let those two factors hold me back, but once they are out of my way, they’ll be no stopping me.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Michael Arden, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, or Cynthia Erivo
