Zach Thomson, Optimistic Producer and Director

Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.

My name is Zach Thomson. I am a creator, I spend a good portion of my days creating.

I am a persistent, optimistic producer and director.

I spend most of my time developing content that I want to make. Especially during the 2020 Covid pandemic.

They say good things come to those that wait but this is no excuse to not go after what you want. That saying is not an excuse to wait for an opportunity to knock.

You have to be in the process of making things happen.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I spend most of my time creating and less of my time-consuming.

I have sacrificed a lot to be in the position I am in. It has not come easy for me. But when I create I am happier.

I study and learn more every day. I still feel hungry for more knowledge.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?

I spent years working on movie projects and it got me more excited to create my own projects.

It took me over a decade to realize that I am a producer. It lines up best with my talents and abilities.

I saw many titles and positions have cool prestige but I finally realized that I need to follow my passions and dreams and not anyone else’s.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?

Once you have done all that you can do, waiting for others to do their part is difficult.

Being patient has been the hardest thing for me. I have tried my hardest to “write my own ticket” meaning I’m creating not waiting around for an opportunity.

But at the end of the day, there is only so much within my control. So being patient waiting for other people has been difficult, for example, distribution, I don’t have a say in a major studio. So I do all I can and be patient.

But I have a strong feeling that persistence will be a major contributor to my success.

If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?

  • Keanu Reeves – just because I think he is an amazing human being.
  • Elon Musk – I think he would get a kick out of The Supernatural University.
  • Ron Howard – I would love to work with him on anything. He is a fantastic filmmaker and would love to work with him because he is one of the greatest.
