Please introduce yourself to The LA Note Magazine, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about Hal Rudnick.
Nice to meet you! I’m Hal Rudnick. I am a comedian originally from NJ, but have lived in LA for 20 years. I am an alumnus of the Groundlings Sunday Company and a teacher at the UCB Theatre.
I also write, host, podcast, and a lot of other stuff. I love to make things and share them with folks, or just with my wife and three dogs.
What qualities make Hal Rudnick different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I have extensive experience in several mediums with comedy. I have performed and written for live sketch comedy, as well as improv comedy, TV writing, acting, hosting, and teaching at UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade).
You may have also seen me on YouTube with Screen Junkies!
These opportunities have shown me the industry from many angles and provided much perspective.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
I have always made comedy. From sketches in elementary school, skits and song parodies in Boy Scouts. I started doing stand-up in NYC while I was still in high school…don’t go looking, you’re not gonna find it.
I have always loved making people laugh. It helped to have a father as outlandish as mine was.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was jumping a Camaro over a 50-foot gorge. I didn’t overcome it… help, I’m at the bottom of a gorge!
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
Musk, Bezos, & Oprah
