Please Introduce Yourself, What You Do, Why You Do It, And What You Want People To Know About You.
My name is Hollis Morrissette, and I’m a multitalented artist in Los Angeles, CA. At the age of 5, I knew exactly where I wanted to live which was Los Angeles (originally from a small town named Lansing in Michigan). I knew who I wanted to be, and what I wanted to do in life.
My answers never changed, only because I knew the type of person I was with this big personality and dreams that have always seemed, in a perfect world, impossible. However, in my world, I always knew my dreams were possible and at some point, I’d reach my destination.
I personally always say that I’ve gotten my start in this business as an actor at the age of eight. That was the very first time I worked in theatre both in school and in summer camps.
I’ve always viewed myself as a multitalented artist because I’m always digging deep into my talents and trying to play with them externally. I like to venture, test out all my potentials and perfect my crafts to the best of my abilities.
Looking back at my younger self and what I wanted out of life seemed far out of reach however, I made sure and I’m still making sure that everything I want with God on my side, nothing is impossible. I’m POSSIBLE.
When I became an actor, I also wanted to sing, become a male pageant titleholder, an entrepreneur, a writer and so much more. I also knew that my career and platform was never just about me. It’s about helping other people in any way I can. I’ve always been that type of person and that’s one of the greatest joys I get to experience in my life. Making other people smile and just being there for them in some way or another.
At the age of 16, I got my first start as a model for the clothing store Hollister & Co. I continued small modeling gigs through college and continued acting and singing through college as well. By the time I turned 20, that’s when I got my first start on television as a major guest star for a show called Vice Principals on HBO. It was a moment I’ll never forget and an opportunity that has helped me get where I am today.
Shortly after filming, I then moved to Los Angeles. By age 25 I officially opened my very small online boutique clothing store. I named it “The Gentleman’s Den by Hollis M.” I’m a person of style, my own signature style and I love it.
For now, my store is stocked with very casual attire however, my plan in the near future, is to add more styles that I like to wear such as bow ties, ties, loafers to name a few. This was also the same age where I released my first two singles. My Christmas single and my first single from my almost finished EP album.
After turning 26, I was already winning my state pageant title as Mr. Michigan United States and becoming a pageant titleholder with the Mr. United States organization. Big dream come true to say the least. I’ve chosen my life at a very young age which is rare.
However, I choose to live my life as an artist not only based on the talents I was born with, but also based upon the dreams and visions I see. I’m using and will always use my platform in a way to hopefully inspire others to keep going. Never doubt yourself because sometimes all you have is yourself to keep taking that leap of faith.
What Qualities Make You Different And Unique From Everyone Else In The Industry?
That’s a question I often get as I’m sure every artist has as well. The only thing I can say is just being me. Yes, I know that sounds so cliché however, when thought is really put into that. You realize as individuals, we’re all meant to stand out.
So, by me embracing who I am, doing my best everyday and continuously recognizing that there’s only ONE me. Then it’s easier to accept that I (nicely and respectfully said), cannot be duplicated.
But, if I have to absolutely choose some qualities, then I’d say the style of my voice and the type of music I make. I don’t really hear anything on the radio or streaming services like it. I guess I could have said that in the beginning. (*chuckles)
Describe THAT Moment When You Realized You Wanted To Do What You Do Now. Who Did You Tell First? What Has It Been Like Since That Moment?
I knew exactly what I wanted to do at age five. I remember watching movies and immediately Imitating the characters, or recreating the shows I would watch into a one man (or one boy) show. It became repetitive, and I couldn’t stop pretending I was on stage or in front of a camera.
My family knew what I was doing because they watched however, it was me that said I was moving away to Los Angeles. It hasn’t been easy at all the past almost seven years living here but, I keep pushing and going every, single day. However, there have been some moments of success.
If You Had To Pick The TOP 3 People You’d Want To Meet That Could Take Your Career (Or Business) To The Next Level…Who Would Those 3 People Be?
Well, a lot of them are sadly no longer here with us on earth but, I still have a good list of people who are. My top three would include; Mariah Carey, Steven Spielberg and Jimmy Kimmel.
