What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I started my career late in life, after going blind and having to close my performing arts academy. While I never fully gained back my eyesight, am a woman, and an older Director/Writer, I never let it stop me.
If I believe I can I will. I also feel others should feel that way about their hopes and dreams. Dream in Action is my Motto!
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?
When I finished my first screenplay about the murder of my mother, I was hooked. It was such a cathartic experience, and while most of my stories are fictional, I learned just how powerful making people think and feel can be.
When I made my first film, the Director I hired didn’t show up, and my DP was a professional from the Industry, he told me I have to do this.
He taught me a lot, and since then I’ve taken classes, workshops, and seminars. I continue to grow in my career and have won countless awards.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
Overcoming my age, and eyesight limitations. Most of it, I overcome through the right attitude.
But when it comes to my eyes, I have found that a monitor keeps me on track for watching the scene, and lots of prep with blocking, shortlists, and overall planning make the difference.
If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?
I’ve dreamed of writing a script for Melissa McCarthy. Just something about her, that makes me think she could bring my characters to life.
I love the works of Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.
But honestly, anyone with success and experience, I’d be grateful to work with and learn from.
