The Jokester Behind TV and Film actress Elvia Hill

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

Hi everyone! My name is Elvia Hill and I am an American TV and Film actress. You might know me as Maria from Cobra Kai, Jenny from Lifetimes Nobody Will Believe You or Maritza in Comé (eat) streaming on HBOMax. I love to be part of projects that are inclusive and tell beautiful authentic stories.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

First I want to say that we are all unique. Everything single person on this planet was made to be different in their own way and it’s a beautiful masterpiece. I myself am bubbly and a jokester at heart. I love my Puerto Rican roots and dance bachata and salsa as often as I can with my other dance friends.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

There is nothing like stepping on the a set for the first time. I started acting a few years ago for fun. I wasn’t sure If I would be doing it for a long time. I did it because I realized life is short. I booked my first short as a professional actor and I remember being so excited and nervous. I got on set and I saw how they transformed an empty room into a newsroom. I got my hair and makeup done which I thought was so cool. Due to the nerves I was a little nervous and gassy but all of that went away as soon as the director called action. I knew then that I really needed to act. My spirit relished in that moment and I knew in my bones that I could do this for the rest of my life. It was an addicting feeling. I didn’t want to leave that set that day but I knew I had to. So I made it my mission to get on another set and bring a new story to life. My friends say I’m sassy, fun and “real”.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

My biggest challenge has been to be my most authentic self. I have imposter syndrome sometimes and I’ve learned to love who I am and all my quirks.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

1. Gloria Calderón Kellet since she is giving a voice to Latinos on the screen. I support her mission.

2. Zoe Saldaña is a wonderfully talented actress and I would enjoy speaking to her about the craft. I know I would gain so much knowledge.

3. Carla Hool who is opening doors for more Latinx actors through her casting.
