Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?
Hey there! I’m Kiera Atkins, a multifaceted creative soul on a mission to capture the essence of life through the lens and music. As a master control operator at Fox 45 and the CEO of Star Light Media Productions, I’ve been fortunate enough to turn my passion for film and music into a thriving career.
From taking inspiring photographs to writing lyrics under my rap alter ego “Suave with the Flo,” I strive to ignite emotions and leave a positive impact on anyone who encounters my work. From Baltimore, MD; I’ve dedicated over a decade to perfecting my craft in film and audio production.
My journey began at the young age of 8 when I discovered my love for film production while assisting with my church’s media ministry. Since then, I’ve been chasing dream after dream, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new opportunities.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I’m an unstoppable force with a heart full of passion and versatility. A true jack-of-all-trades, embracing challenges and breaking barriers since day one. Resilience is my superpower; I thrive in the face of adversity, never giving up or backing down. Ready to conquer any obstacle that comes my way, fueled by an unwavering fighting spirit. When I’m passionate about something I give it my all.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.
Well my journey has been fueled by faith and guided by God’s divine plan. Through the ups and downs, I’ve witnessed miracles unfold before my eyes and opportunities manifest when all seemed impossible. Instead I’ve learned to embrace the challenges that come my way, knowing they will shape me into the person I am destined to become. My story is not one of overnight success but a testament to the power of gradual growth and perseverance. Each year has brought me closer to my purpose, allowing me to evolve as an individual and make an impact in this world.
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?
Through countless challenges and setbacks, I have learned to trust my own abilities and become a self-made entrepreneur. My path has been paved with rejections and moments of self-doubt, but I refuse to let them define me. Instead, I choose to rise above and let my passion for music and film guide me towards success. My college acceptance may have been delayed, but my determination knows no bounds. From unpaid gigs to enduring an abusive relationship, I’ve emerged stronger than ever. Only way I got through any of these challenges was through faith and perseverance.
Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?
First person I would love to meet is Oprah, she has been an inspiration to me and the perfect example of a successful black woman from Maryland. I’d love to pick her brain on the business and advice in the entertainment business.
Next is Miriam A. Hyman, I’d love to work with her on any TV show or Film, she inspires me to be my self. Being apart of the LGBTQ community I did not grow up seeing a lot of black lesbian entertainment industry. She is a perfect role model for young black women apart of the LGBTQ community. I’d love to work with her and get advice on how to maneuver in the entertainment business as a black lesbian woman.
Lastly, I would love to work with Taylor Sheridan. I’d love to pick his brain and work with him on the projects he produces/ directs.
