Vega Montanez Shares The Inspiration In Becoming A Writer, Producer, And Director

Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.

My names Vega and I am a Dominican Writer, Director, and TV/Film Producer.

I fell in love with crafting worlds and experiences for people to enjoy and relive as often as they please.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

My focus is on creating a space for creatives like me to feel accomplished and successful.

I want to help people understand that just because someone hasn’t had their first major Hollywood blockbuster, doesn’t mean none of their work is amazing.

There is an entire under explored and under enjoyed space in the independent creative space.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?

There are two moments I can recall and they were in the same week for sure. First I did my last gig as a Background Actor where I watched some as they were treated poorly by a director. I immediately thought to myself, “Yeah, I don’t want to be an actor if that’s how they get treated.”

Then later that week I saw a movie called “The Terrifier” on Netflix and thought “I can make something better than this and these guys got a deal?”. That was when I made the decision to write and produce my first movie.

The directing part happened cause I couldn’t find anyone else who I could afford and boom here I am, one of many talented directors working to make historic films.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge so far has been distribution.

I think a lot of filmmakers struggle with this and truthfully it’s a very temporary struggle. When I wasn’t getting any offers, nobody was opening my emails.

As soon as the first offer came in more started pouring through. It’s all out as if Executives talk to each other about their platforms.

If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?

Joe Rogan, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Katsuhiro Harada.
