Song Statement: The creation of “Next” began after the band learned that over 600 mass shootings occurred across the United States in 2023.
The realization that gun violence has swiftly become a standard fixture in American lives fueled the music and lyrics behind this powerful single. “Next” confronts listeners with the unsettling possibility that they too could become the next victim of a mass shooting.
About the Track: “Next” is a metal track brimming with wild, brutal, and energetic musical dissonance, angst, and chaos. The song builds a great amount of dissonance and angst through its intro, pre-choruses, and post-choruses.
The verses begin with a character numb to the news of “the loss of life” and progress to a chorus that starkly declares the lack of real options or tangible solutions in the current climate, encapsulated in the haunting refrain, “no one can save us!”
