Japan’s latest music sensation Number_i – who is Sho Hirano (27), Yuta Jinguji (26) and Yuta Kishi (28) – celebrate their return to the top of the charts this week as they debut at #1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 with their latest single “INZM.”

Alongside the impressive debut, the band’s previous singles “GOAT” jumped from #78 to #58 and “BON” went from #53 to #40. “INZM,” “GOAT” and “BON” will appear on Number_i’s debut album  No.I (pronounced ‘Number One’) due out September 23.  Pre-order is available now here.

“INZM”–which is a play on inazuma, the Japanese word for lightning, is “…a ferocious three-part single…” per Genius, adding, “The track goes from nu-metal to old-school hip-hop to EDM, more or less, with self-aggrandizing lyrics that present this band as nothing to mess with.” It debuted at #2 on the Genius Top Songs chart.  Excitement is also building around the “INZM” action-packed video which showcases the trio’s infectious energy and undeniable talent.

“INZM”–which is produced by group member Yuta Jinguji–is Number_i’s second turn at #1 on Japan’s Hot 100.  The trio made their US debut this past April when the J-pop heavyweights appeared at Coachella as special guests on the 88rising Futures stage. Following their festival performance, their song “GOAT” topped the Billboard chart as well as hit #10 on the US iTunes overall chart and #3 on the Hip-Hop chart, creating industry buzz.

The music video surpassed 10 million views within three days of its release, reaching global #1 on YouTube’s daily music video ranking (as of January 3, 2024).  Currently “GOAT” has over 50 million streams on Spotify and its video has crossed the over 68 million views threshold.

Earlier this spring, Number_i released their mini-album No.O -ring- (pronounced as ‘Numbering’), which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Japan Hot Albums chart in its first week. Additionally, the music video for the Sho Hirano produced lead track “BON” surpassed 10 million views within two days of its release, peaking at  #2 globally on YouTube’s daily music video ranking and making their return to the Japan Hot 100 chart, also at #2. Today, the “BON” music video has over 41 million views on YouTube.
