Martell Lacey Talks About His Journey To Music

Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.

Hello I am Martell Lacey. I’m a musical RnB artist out of Houston, Tx. I have recently released a original Christmas record titled “Christmas Canvas” that is receiving rave reviews.

I really enjoy the cultivation of inspiration. The love I have for being inspired and inspiring others is a feeling that I can only display because the words I have couldn’t express the happiness it truly gives me.

I love music. Music is my life, but I also love the freedom of expression, the journey that awaits. Because it is specifically coded for me.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I have dedication to be super original. Not trendy. Of course I am still inspired by others. But I still express it in my own way.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?

In class we were all singing and I had never disclosed to anyone I could sing. Never really thought about it making it a career at that point. But another guy sung the song I was going to sing and he was a popular guy. So I felt I had no shot.

But I decided to sing it anyway. I closed my eyes and let go. When I finished I opened my eyes to a standing ovation. It was at that moment I knew what I wanted to do. The first person I told was myself. Because at the time my self esteem was not as high and myself is who needed the most convincing.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?

Fear.

Fear is an emotion that is orchestrated and instilled to hold us back. Overcoming fears that create obstacles to keep us from achieving a true state of bliss. I overcame it by letting go.

Not caring what anyone thought about me. Not needing any confirmation that I am who I always dreamed of being.

If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?

Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Janet Jackson.
