Prestige. Uses Music to Honor His Hometown and Grandmother

Please introduce yourself, what you do, why you do it, and what you want people to know about you.

Prestige. is an American artist, producer, and songwriter based out of Southern California.

Raised in Inglewood, CA, Prestige. has been involved in the music business for over 15 years.

With musical talents stemming from his late grandmother, who was a former member of the legendary oldies group The Platters, Prestige. uses his musical gifts to spread his story of being neutral in the City of Champions.

As an adolescent, he had to overcome several elements of living in Inglewood, ranging from the pique of gang violence to other factors such as low-income living, criminal activity, and lack of sufficient educational resources.

However, Prestige. endured through these challenges and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of La Verne in 2015.

Today Prestige. pays homage to the city that cultured him by giving back to the community; he feels that since education was a pivotal turning point in his life, he wishes to deposit those same gems that were given to him during his own upbringing.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

Most artists that are labeled as rappers don’t usually carry singing ability, let alone also produce their own records. I am one of few of those artists.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?

It was when I had a published article on my music by my college newspaper. Prior to that moment I was perfecting my craft, and knew I was destined for greatness.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?

My greatest challenge to this day has to be the passing of my grandmother.

I had got the news two weeks ago in the middle of a studio session and broke down into tears.

I had already been preparing for my biggest show all year and wanted to cancel it for bereavement reasons, but I kept hearing my grandma’s voice tell me “boy you better keep going. Let the tears fall but keep moving forward.”

Worked like a charm.

If you had to pick the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could take your career (or business) to the next level…who would those 3 people be?

Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, and Snoop Dogg
