My name is Robert L Butler Jr.
I am an award-winning Indie actor, writer, editor, producer, and director.
I create original content and believe in diversity in film.
What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?
I give opportunities for minorities to be featured in lead roles out here on the NW.
Most scripts are only tailored to feature Caucasian actors and actresses as lead roles.
Minorities are often offered background extra roles, never the opportunity to be the lead role.
Describe THAT moment when you realized you wanted to do what you do now. Who did you tell first? What has it been like since that moment?Â
I saw Enter the Dragon as a kid and I knew right then I wanted to be an actor and filmmaker.
Seeing a minority on screen in the lead role was fascinating to me.
I told my mom after it was over I wanted to be an actor.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to face and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was after seeing that there were no opportunities for lead roles for African Americans, I wrote my first full feature script with a diverse cast in mind.
Now I had to find the actors and actresses that were willing to believe in me and work with me.
I could not do it on my own, teamwork makes the dream work!
