Camera Angles and Movement: How Otto Nyholm Does It

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

Hey!

My name is Otto and I’m a stunt performer from Finland. I love to express myself through movement and I believe stunts or movement in itself is an art form. Everybody moves differently and through movement people can create something beautiful.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

When filming stunts, I think camera angles and knowing how to move the camera is as much important as the stunt itself. So when I was starting to learn more about the stunt industry I learned how to film and edit aswell.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

The first time I got on a movie set I was told to get shot and do a fall from a roof. I was standing there and then they yelled “ACTION!!”. I Waited for my que. Pretended to get shot and fell down and laid still until they yelled “CUT!!”. And at that moment I knew this is what I wanna do.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

I’m still going through my biggest challenge. Which is networking and trying to get my foot in to the industry. The plan is to go to workshops, learn from experienced people from the industry. Film and post content on my social media as much I can do so I can be seen. Try to learn as much as I can and work hard for it.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business?  Why these specific individuals?

Gareth Evans – I’m a big fan of his action choreography.

Sam Hargrave – Very Inspired how he started as a stunt performer to stunt coordinator.

Tom Cruise – One of the biggest reason why I wanted to be a stuntman when I was watching him on the screen.
