Naomi Howansky Has Been Making Music Since She Was 8 Years old

Please introduce yourself. What do you do? Why? What do you want people to know about you?

My name is Naomi Cheyanne and I am an artist, producer, and content creator from Long Beach, CA.

I’m passionate about writing and recording music as well as working with other artists and creatives to help turn their visions into reality.

Finding direction through writing as a child, I catapulted my passion by starting my own music production business called Smug Sounds. A platform for independent creatives to build independent music projects. I also released my first EP “In My Home” produced by Daniel Robert.

What qualities make you different and unique from everyone else in the industry?

I never put limits on myself. I’m constantly learning and trying different avenues of music and entertainment such as producing, performing, film, acting, modeling, video editing, entrepreneurship, etc.

I proved to myself that I’m capable of doing it all and doing it well not only for myself but for others too. I only want to continue to grow my skills.

Describe THAT moment when you realized you’re doing what you were born to do.

I was finishing up my last couple of years in college. I was constantly skipping class just so I can stay home and record music in my closet. I’ve been writing songs since I was about 8 years old and I knew at that age that’s what I was born to do.

However, the older I got, I lost my confidence in music until I decided to release a demo in college of a song I wrote called “Heyy” that went viral on this old app called Allihoopa. Since then, I’ve only progressed in my art.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through and how did you grow through it?

Growing up as a twin was very challenging for me. People constantly compared us in looks, sports, personality, etc.

When I became a teenager, I was severely depressed. I dealt with an eating disorder that almost ruined my life. I was suicidal and constantly harming myself.

I overcame this challenge by participating in community theater productions. I took my mind off myself by memorizing scripts, singing in musicals, and making new friends.

Who are the TOP 3 people you’d want to meet that could elevate your career or business? Why these specific individuals?

Ross Golan, Kara DioGuardi and Linda Perry. In the last few years, I’ve studied all three of these incredible songwriters.

Every day I listen to Ross Golan’s podcast “And the Writer is. . .” to not only learn more about songwriting but also to learn about the industry. These individuals constantly inspire me.
