40th ANNIVERSARY OF CHICAGO HOUSE MUSIC
AT METRO IN CHICAGO
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22
TICKETS ON SALE NOW HERE
Ten City – who is Byron Stingily (lead singer, songwriter) and Marshall Jefferson, one of electronic music’s most renowned producers – are set to perform a special concert for the 40th anniversary of Chicago house music alongside a 14-piece live band and special guests at Metro on Friday, November 22. Tickets are now available here.
The concert is held in collaboration with House Music 40, an Illinois non-profit whose mission is to elevate Chicago’s House Music heritage while providing financial support to Chicago House Music creatives who face health challenges.
Forged in the white heat of acid house’s rise during the 80’s and surrounded by jacking tracks, Ten City offered a lyrical salve for the world’s woes, based on its disco origins and always delivering a hopeful message. Their debut album Foundation is one of a small handful of house albums released in the late 1980’s now regarded as classics of the genre. It yielded “That’s The Way Love Is,” a top ten hit in the UK and a Billboard #1 smash in their home country.
Proof that disco evolved rather than died can be heard throughout the discography of House Music group Ten City. Set apart most obviously by singer Byron Stingily, a powerhouse falsetto between and distinct from inspirations such as Earth Wind and Fire singer Philip Bailey along with Sylvester, the Chicago group’s recordings epitomize deep house with a basis in gospel and soul, and messages of love and positivity.
Teamed with dance music pioneer Marshall Jefferson, Ten City emerged in the late ’80s with two of their biggest hits, “Right Back to You“, “That’s the Way Love Is. ” and stand out smash “Devotion” Before their mid-’90s disbandment, the group in their original trio incarnation issued four albums ranging from Foundation (1989) through That Was Then, This Is Now (1994), and charted with seven additional singles.
Nearly three decades after the fourth album, Ten City returned with Judgment (2021), made by Stingily and Jefferson along with stellar producers Emmaculate, Shannon Chambers, DJ Spen and Tommy Davis, which in 2022 earned a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Electronic/Dance Album.” Due to popular demand and the feel-good vibe from the recording of Judgement, Ten City returned in 2023 with Love Is Love, featuring collaborations with Chicago house artists DRAMA and UK producers Wh0.
